The Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University will participate in the inaugural event of the Europe Direct Ionian Islands – PRAXI Network office entitled “Europe in the Region of the Ionian Islands,” which will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Ionian Academy in Corfu. The Department will be represented by Dr. Marily Argyrokastriti. The event takes place on Tuesday, May 14, 2026 at the Ionian Academy, Corfu, 11:00–14:00.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts of Ionian University, will be featured as a guest on the radio programme Kena Daimonia, hosted by Pantazis Tsaras on the Second Programme 103.7 FM of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ΕΡΤ), on Sunday, 10 May, at 23:00. The discussion will focus on the new musical project "Echoes of Modality" ("Tropikotitas Apo-echoi"), by Panagiotis Sdoukos, Giorgos Pappas, and Loukas Kourlis, which will be presented on Sunday, 17 May, at 20:00, at the Megaron Mousikis Music Library in Athens.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the 19th Audiovisual Arts Festival, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 7 to Sunday, May 17.

This year, the Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) is hosting a tribute to the Center for AudioVisual Studies (CAS) at the historic FAMU film school in Prague, one of the most prestigious film schools in the world. Saturday, May 9, 4:30 p.m., Ionian Academy.

The music department of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women (Central Branch) is organizing an event dedicated to the musics of the Mediterranean, featuring Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University, as keynote speaker. The title of her lecture is: “The Mediterranean Sea sings: Musical Bridges between People and Cultures”. The Steering Committee of the 19th Audiovisual Arts Festival (#AVfest2026) of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University invites students and anyone who is interested in joining the volunteers’ team.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the participation of two students of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University in the 22nd Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF 2026), titled "META–MORPHOSIS", which takes place on 23–26 April 2026 at Technopolis City of Athens. Tonia Papakonstantinou — postgraduate student of the M.A. programme "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age" — presents the work "Condact: The Metamorphosis of Touch" and Hope Zoe Papathanasiou — undergraduate student of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts — presents the work "Wave Motion".

The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) Evaluation and Accreditation Council has accredited the Postgraduate Study Programme 'New Technologies in Environmental Education and Sustainable Development' of the Department of Environment' of the Department of Environment of the Ionian University as fully compliant to the Standards for Quality Accreditation of Postgraduate Study Programmes of the HAHE and to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) for study level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework. 

The algorithmic sound work by PhD candidate Thanasis Epitideios, titled “iNature” (2024), has been selected by a jury to be presented as part of an international sound installation taking place on April 11–12, 2026, in the Public Garden of Évora (Coreto do Jardim Público). The event constitutes a central pillar of the European program “Lá nas Árvores: Ciclo II – Levantar Voo”, which is included in the official events of Évora_27 – European Capital of Culture. iNature is directly connected to Mr. Epitideios’ doctoral research at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, under the supervision of Professor Apostolos Loufopoulos.

Renata Dalianoudi, Musicologist, PhD in Ethnomusicology, and Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, has been appointed Chair of the Jury Committee for the 7th Panhellenic Music Competition “Dimitris Mitropoulos,” organized by the Conservatory of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus in collaboration with ART Magazine. The Panhellenic Federation of Cultural Associations of Cretan Societies (POPKS) and the Panhellenic Association of Teachers of Greek Folk Dance (PEDDH) have invited Renata Dalianoudi, PhD in Ethnomusicology, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University, to participate as a speaker in the Scientific Symposium “Cretan Dance: Tradition and Transformation.” The title of Renata Dalianoudi’s presentation is: “Cultural Associations, Folk Dance Schools, and the Management of Music & Dance Heritage: Reflections and Proposals.” The event takes place on Sunday, 15 March 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Auditorium “Cretan Estia”.

On Sunday, 8 March, International Women’s Day, the Lyceum of Greek Women/ Department of Corfu, the main cultural Assocuation for the promotion of the role of Women in Cuture, Science and Society, will confer an honorary distinction upon Renata Dalianoudi for her contribution to the Arts and Letters, and proclaim her an Honorary Member of the Institution. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor of Music and Audiovisual Culture at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University, and Scientific Associate of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), was chosen as radio broadcaster also at ERT – Foni tis Elladas/ The Voice of Greece, the international Radio Service addressed to the Greek diaspora worldwide, with archival radio shows concerning the Greek culture. On Friday, 6 March 2026, at 12:00 p.m., the programme will feature a tribute to Greek art song and to the setting poetry to music, with a case study devoted to the song cycle “Athanasia” by Manos Hadjidakis and Nikos Gatsos. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, invited speaker at the scholarly event dedicated to the Cretan lyra player Kostas Mountakis, organized by Manos Mountakis and the Municipality of Papagos–Cholargos on the occasion of the book KOSTAS MOUNTAKIS: A RETROSPECTIVE (Metronomos Publications), will address the contribution of this eminent artist to Cretan music and his collaborations with leading figures of the arts and letters. Her lecture is entitled: “Kostas Mountakis through the Testimonies of Three Major Cretan Figures: G. Amargianakis, G. Sifakis, M. Participation in the online festival Waves of Light of the National Opera, in collaboration with PPC, of ​​the video-performance Just Transition? | Δίκαιη μετάβαση; by students of AVARTS Postgraduate Studies Program "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age" under the guidance of Associate Professor of AVARTS, Hari Marini. The Greek National Opera’s online festival Waves of Light, in collaboration with the PPC and curated by Giorgos Koumendakis, features the first series of site-specific performances inspired by the Megalopolis Steam Power Station. Maria Aslanidi, special teaching personnel at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts, is a member of the new international research working group of the RDA Steering Committee-RSC entitled "[Advisory] Music Working Group." The mission of this research team is to promote and develop the RDA standard for music further, while ensuring that it incorporates international developments in music information and metadata. More information about the new research group will be available in April 2026.

The World Cultural Foundation of Hellenism of the Diaspora, in collaboration with the Traditional Cultural Association “I Filadelfeia,” is organizing an event on the centenary of Mikis Theodorakis' birth, with invited speaker Renata Dalianoudi, Musicologist and Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University. The title of the lecture is: “Mikis Theodorakis' Contribution to the Greek Music.” The event is taking place on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, 6:30 p.m. at the World Cultural Foundation of Hellenism of the Diaspora.

The Animation Festival ICONA 2025, which took place from November 13th to 16th 2025, exclusively online, by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, was successfully completed. The festival program included both professional and student competitions. A total of 316 films from 100 countries were screened.
