Maria Aslanidi, special teaching personnel at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts, is a member of the new international research working group of the RDA Steering Committee-RSC entitled "[Advisory] Music Working Group." The mission of this research team is to promote and develop the RDA standard for music further, while ensuring that it incorporates international developments in music information and metadata. More information about the new research group will be available in April 2026.

The World Cultural Foundation of Hellenism of the Diaspora, in collaboration with the Traditional Cultural Association “I Filadelfeia,” is organizing an event on the centenary of Mikis Theodorakis' birth, with invited speaker Renata Dalianoudi, Musicologist and Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University. The title of the lecture is: “Mikis Theodorakis' Contribution to the Greek Music.” The event is taking place on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, 6:30 p.m. at the World Cultural Foundation of Hellenism of the Diaspora.

The Animation Festival ICONA 2025, which took place from November 13th to 16th 2025, exclusively online, by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, was successfully completed. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, is invited to offer a three-hour seminar at the Department of Theatre Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, within the framework of the undergraduate course “Shadow Theatre and Puppetry 2. Encounters” (Professor: Dr. Anthi Chotzakoglou). The seminar’s theme is: “MUSIC IN SHADOW THEATRE. THE ROLE of FOLK and POPULAR MUSIC. CASE STUDY: ‘Alexander the Great and the Enchanted Serpent’ by Eugenios Spatharis, with music by Manos Hadjidakis.” The seminar takes place on Friday, 12 December, 12:00–15:00, at the School of Philosophy, National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The two books Lefkadian Stories and Altani and Other Lefkadian Stories, written by the Folklorist Panagiotis Skliros—works in the fields of Oral History and Public Folklore—are presented, among other speakers, by Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University. The Interactive Arts Laboratory (InArts Lab) of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts is pleased to announce that Boryana Rossa, artist, professor, and Associate Chair in the Department of Film and Media Arts at Syracuse University, has been awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant for the project “Aphrodite Conception.” The project originated during the TTTfellows: Art & Science Residency 2024 Fall in Corfu, where Rossa collaborated with molecular biologist Dr. Heidi Hehnly-Chang. Developed within the framework of Rewilding Cultures, co-financed by the European Union, the residency provided a unique environment for interdisciplinary experimentation, facilitated by Dalila Honorato and Adam Zaretsky.

The Winter School in Hybrid Arts Methodology returns to the Athens School of Fine Arts Annex on the island of Hydra for a week-long immersive program that brings together postgraduate students and faculty for collaborative academic exploration, artistic experimentation, and intensive research development. Running from November 24 to 28, 2025, the Winter School provides a dedicated environment where emerging researchers engage directly with leading practitioners in hybrid arts, media archaeology, performance, sound, sustainability, bioart, and critical theory. The Winter School in Hybrid Arts Methodology is co-organized by the InArts Lab  of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts - Ionian University on behalf of the Master of Research in Hybrid Arts (MARes) and the C’ Sculpture Studio of the Athens School of Fine Arts. The program operates within a framework of Social Ethics that fosters respectful communication, inclusivity, and accessibility.

The work reSonaissance by PhD candidate Thanasis Epitidios was selected to represent Greece at the Audio Art Festival in Krakow, as part of the annual international concert of ICEM (the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music), of which the Hellenic Association of Electroacoustic Music Composers (HSzHM / HELMCA) is a member.

The Sorbonne University/Department of Classical Studies & Institute for Research in Musicology (Institut de Recherche en Musicologie – IReMus), in collaboration with the University of Oxford / Faculty of Classics, are organising an international conference marking the centenary of Manos Hadjidakis' birth, entitled “Manos Hadjidakis: Music, Culture, Politics”, to be held on 21–22 November in Paris. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, will deliver a lecture entitled “Manos Hadjidakis in the Long 1970s: Renegotiating the Entechno”. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, participates in the 17th Interdepartmental Musicological Conference, whose general theme is: “Operetta: Ruptures, Continuities, and Transnational Approaches.” Her paper is titled: "From the operetta 'The Elixir of Love' by K. Giannidis, performed at the Greek National Opera, to the Drag Oratorio 'Songs of the Greek people' by Giannis Skourletis: A queer reading of Kostas Giannidis.” The Conference takes place from 7-9.11.2025, at the Ionian Academy and the Concert Hall of the Old Philharmonic, Corfu.

On the occasion of the centenary of Manos Hadjidakis’ birth, the Athens Concert Hall, in collaboration with the Friends of Music Society and the Greek Film Archive, is organizing a round table discussion titled “Like an Old Movie…”, featuring Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor of "Music and Audiovisual Culture" at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University, and author of the book “Manos Hadjidakis and the Popular Music Tradition: From the Folk and the Rebetiko to the Art Popular Song” as a guest speaker. The event takes place on Sunday, November 2, 6 p.m. — Athens Concert Hall, Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall.

Emmanouel Rovithis,  and Agnes Papadopoulou, will present at the European Conference on e-Learning (ECEL 2025) the design and the qualitative evaluation of the educational game “The Other Half”, a collective dialogue-writing game aimed at raising awareness on Active Citizenship. The title of the presentation is: “Art and Education: Cultivating Active Citizenship through Game-Based Storytelling.” The talk will be delivered by Dr. Emmanouel Rovithis, lecturer and researcher at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts.

The 23rd Festival “Days of Electroacoustic Music” will take place on October 17–19 in Ioannina. The festival is organized by the Hellenic Association of Electroacoustic Music Composers (HELMCA) in collaboration this year with the Department of Architecture (University of Ioannina) and the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Ioannina (DIPETHE Ioannina). Representing the Ionian University, the PEARL Laboratory of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts collaborates with the ERHMMEE Laboratory of the Department of Music Studies in the implementation of this year’s festival program.

Invited by the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, and within the framework of the International Scientific Conference “Society. Technologies. Solutions.”, held under the umbrella of E³UDRES² SCIENCE in Valmiera, Latvia, Dr. Emmanouel Rovithis, lecturer and researcher at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, will deliver a talk titled: “Hyper Kafka: Rooms of Memory — An Immersive Hypertext Fiction Installation for Teaching and Disseminating Literature.” The course is taught by Agni Papadopoulou, Emmanouel Rovithis, and Vasilis Komianos, teaching staff of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts.

Participation of Associate Professor Hari Marini, at the Conference ‘Anthropocenic Performativity & Performance: Poetry, Environment, New Technologies and AI’ In the context of the three-day Conference ‘Anthropocenic Performativity & Performance: Poetry, Environment, New Technologies and AI’ organised by the University of Patras, Hari Marini, Associate Professor of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, will serve as a member of the Scientific Committee, as well as presenting a video performance entitled: “Spirals: Turning Points” by PartSuspended (https://www.partsuspended.com/).  The Conference will take place on 12, 13 and 14 December 2025, at the Archaeological Museum of Patras. 

MARes Visiting Professor Dr. Adam Zaretsky and MARes 2024–2025 student Angelina Almukhametova participate in the Art Science Salon: BioArt at the University of Puget Sound (USA) in Oct 23, 2025. Their involvement highlights MARes’s active role in international collaborations connecting artistic research with biotechnological and hybrid art practices.

The first talk in the series will be given by MARes student Eeva-Liisa Puhakka on Thursday, October 23, at 4:00 PM (Athens time). Eeva-Liisa will present the latest developments in her project, “Currents of Smell and Signal: From the Barents Sea to the Beyond”, exploring smell as a sociocultural indicator and translating olfactory experiences into multisensory narratives.
