Personal time today is experienced as an ongoing negotiation between inner needs and external demands.
The contemporary experience of personal time is subjective and intrinsically connected to its social and political context. Awareness of inner time is shaped by expectations, memories, and emotions, which are in turn influenced by the rhythmic shifts of contemporary life: work, technological development, and digital presence.
The way in which contemporary individuals perceive time constitutes a field of research for the AVARTS group and forms the conceptual core of the video installation Personal Time.
This collective work records distinct manifestations of the artists’ awareness of personal time. These are digitally expressed through video-art works of up to one minute in duration, in which seconds are not treated merely as units of measurement, but rather as an expanded field for experiencing and articulating one’s personal experience of time.
