The article, titled “Introducing Digitized Cultural Heritage to Wider Audiences by Employing Virtual and Augmented Reality Experiences: The Case of the v-Corfu Project”, presents a holistic approach to the design and implementation of projects that promote cultural heritage using immersive Virtual and Augmented Reality experiences, with the aim of attracting wider audiences. The article was written by a team consisting of Vasileios Komianos, Assistant Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Athanasios Tsipis, Assistant Professor at the Department of Digital Media and Communication and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts and Dr. Aikaterini Kontopanagou.

The Terrabytes Glitch Lab, a phygital collective founded by Augusto Calçada and Xristina Sarli, announces the launch of the TTTLab Official VR World. Developed during their online interaction with participants of the TTTlabs BioFeral.BeachCamp Fall 2024 on the island of Crete from September 15 to 25, this immersive virtual reality project brings together artists, researchers, and technologists to explore new forms of creative expression that blend the digital and physical worlds.

The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2024 is to present the best from the field of animation from all around the world. The festival also aims to preserve and help develop the cultural heritage of animated film, contribute to creation of new films, provide ground for potential international co-productions and encourages dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public. Dr. Heidi Hehnly-Chang (USA) and Dr. Boryana Rossa (Bulgaria/USA) from Syracuse University have been selected to participate in TTTfellows: Art and Science Residency 2024 Fall taking place on 23 September - 4 October 2024 (online) and 7-18 October 2024 in-person on the island of Corfu. TTTfellows is organized by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, within the framework of Rewilding Cultures, a project co-financed by the European Union, and will be hosted in collaboration with the Corfu Central Public Historical Library - Corfu Tech Lab, the Corfu Aquarium and BiHELab.

A delegation of the Ionian University led by the Rector, Professor Andreas Floros, paid an official visit to China from 18 to 28 September 2024.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University participates through the Postgraduate Program in Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age, and the AVARTS team, in the annual exhibition Platforms Projects - Independent Art Fair 2024, which will take place October 10-13, 2024, in Athens.

Renata Dalianoudi, Musicologist - PhD in Ethnomusicology, Associate Professor, Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, participates in the International Congress “Neograeca Medii Aevi VIII. Tradition, Perception and Edition of the Texts”, which is organized by the Dpt of Philology, University of Ioannina, in honor of the Emeritus Professor Mr. Yiannis Mavromatis, at Ioannina, October 3-6 2024. The title of her paper: “The musical perception of the Cretan Epos “Erotocritus” by folk and art composers. Folkloric and Musicological Approach”.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts of Ionian University, was appointed a member of the Academic Council of the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy (H.I.C.D.) for issues related to Cultural Studies, Music/Melodrama, Theatre, Dance Drama.

The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) Evaluation and Accreditation Council has accredited the new Postgraduate Study Programme of Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University as fully compliant to the Standards for Quality Accreditation of new Postgraduate Programmes of the HAHE and to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) for study level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework.

Ionian University participates for the fourth consecutive year in International Fair of Thessaloniki, which will take place from Saturday 7 to Sunday 15 September 2024 (TIF - Helexpo, Egnatia 154, Thessaloniki). The Foundation's presence in the previous three years was a great success, making its participation in the event an institution.

The Committee for the selection of the 2024-2025 Fellowships (Maria Bottis, INSEIT Director, Keith Miller, INSEIT President and Herman Tavani INSEIT ex-President of INSEIT) awarded by the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology, has announced that two Fellowships will be awarded to two PhD students of the Ionian University.

The Society for Corfiot Studies – Solomos Museum, in collaboration with the Ionian Islands Region and the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, as part of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of its establishment, is organizing a "Tribute to the author Konstantinos Theotokis" on Thursday, June 13, Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, 2024.

The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival, a central event of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (AVARTS) of the Ionian University, ended on Sunday (02/06) with great success and large public attendance. For 10 days (May 23 – June 2, 2024) an original program of artistic, scientific and educational events provided the city of Corfu with new cultural experiences, gaining the attention of the academic and the local community.

An amateur theatre company struggling to put on a production of Pirandello's "Leonora, addio!" finds its members constantly at odds with each other, while at the same time having to follow the instructions of an authoritarian director who presents their play as nothing less than a gift from God.

Applications are now open for TTTlabs: BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC) III - Fall 2014, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and the Ionian University within the Feral Labs Network. Dedicated to issues related to new reproductive technologies, TTTlabs: BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC) III under the theme New Repro-FlaOctomingopus (NR-FO) - Non-Human Bioart/Bodyart on the Beach is taking place on 15-25 September 2024 (on-place) in Crete.

The VR film that represented Greece at the 59th Venice Art Biennale is shown in an installation specifically designed for the Ionian Parliament as part of the Audio Visual Arts Festival 2024.

Students and graduates of the Ionian University present a tribute exhibition in memory of Iro Feidia, AVARTS graduate. The aim is to display her illustrative and digital artwork, but also to portray her as an individual, fellow student and friend. Despite her time being short, the plurality and diversity of her work is remarkable.

AKOYSMATA, is the general title for the series of events presented every year by the Laboratory of Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications [EPHMEE] in collaboration with the Laboratory of Performing Arts in Arts [PEARL] of the Faculty of Music and Audiovisual Arts of the Ionian University. AKOYSMATA24 are starting on Friday 24 and finishing on Friday 31, May 2024 and are part of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts’ 20th anniversary celebration.
