The 7th International Conference on Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges (DCAC 2025) is just around the corner, and this year marks a significant step forward in both scale and scope. The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the opening of the 18th Audiovisual Arts Festival, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 18. On Thursday 08/05/2025 at 19:30 at the People's Garden (Gallery of the Municipality of Central Corfu) the opening of the 18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts (8 May - 18 May 2025) will take place.

The Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands, in collaboration with the Ionian University, is organizing a round table discussion on the topic: “Cultural Diplomacy on an International and National Level”, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., at the Ionian Parliament.

On Thursday 08/05/2025 at 19:30 the opening of the Main Exhibition of the 18th Audiovisual Arts Festival, which will take place in Corfu, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 18 May 2025, will be held by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University.

The Radio/ Audio Drama “The Little Prince”, created by students of the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, was selected by the International Festival “YOUTH THEATRE ON AIR” – “Theatre in front of a microphone” to be performed in the Festival across Greece, Cyprus, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Australia. “The Little Prince” is a radio dramatization of the classic literary work by Saint-Exupéry, featuring musical background and soundscapes. It was created within the course “Music and Audiovisual Media: Radio and TV Production” (Associate Professor: Renata Dalianoudi) and was presented at the 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival of the Ionian University on May 31, 2024.

The Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) Evaluation and Accreditation Council has accredited the Postgraduate Study Programme of Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Era of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University as fully compliant to the Standards for Quality Accreditation of Postgraduate Study Programmes of the HAHE and to the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) for study level 7 of the National and European Qualifications Framework.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 15:30 in Room YK2, Nathalie Dubois Calero will present the lecture "BacterVirHuman: Identities at the Microbial Intersection of Art and Biology" as a guest speaker of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, within the framework of the course THE806 – Hybrid Arts Practices, coordinated by Prof. Dalila Honorato and Dr. Tania Tsiridou.

The AV-school, the seminar and workshop series of the Audio-Visual Arts Festival, will take place at the Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, from May 12 to 16, 2025. This year’s theme, "Intersections", invites participants from all backgrounds who are interested in contemporary art and new technologies.

The Steering Committee of the 18th Audiovisual Arts Festival (#AVfest2025) of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University invites students and anyone who is interested in joining the volunteers’ team. Volunteer registration deadline: 11 April 2025

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, is a Visiting Professor at the University of Barcelona, Dept. of Audio-visual Media/ Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media, 7-12 April, to give a series od lectures.

The Ionian University’s Department of Audio & Visual Arts has announced the publication of the proceedings from the Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT2023) conference. The volume, published in 2025, compiles a selection of research and artistic explorations presented at TTT2023 Malta, where 164 international participants gathered at the historic Malta Society of Arts to examine the boundaries of artistic and scientific discourse.

Maria Aslanidi, Specialized Teaching Personnel at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, is participating in the Annual Meeting and International Symposium entitled: "Metadata Standards Matter: building a Sustainable Future for Information" 17-19 March 2025 at the EBE at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Her participation consists of coordinating the meeting of the UNIMARC Permanent Committee in her capacity as coordinator of the ISBDM-UNIMARC Harmonisation Working Group, which was established and has been operating since 2023.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Dept of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, invited speaker by the Scientific Conference organized by the Lyceum Club of Greek Women in Corfu "Woman, from the folk culture till today", on the occasion of the Women's Day. The title of the lecture: "The place of woman in the post-war period and her image at the Greek Popular Cinema in 50's, 60's, 70's". The conference will take place on Saturday 15 March at 11.00 a.m. at the Cultural Centre of the Holy Metropolis. 

Ionian University Library & Information Centre publishes the monthly bulletin on the productivity of Ionian University's researchers, based on Scopus and MDPI.

The class schedule for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year [Version v1] has been published. The schedule is permanently available on the Calendar page. Classes begin on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Maya Minder will present her artistic work as part of the class “Exploring Interventions in Nature Through Artistic Expression II: Fermentation Art,” where she will also conduct a workshop. Date & Time: Wednesday, February, 26, 2025, 17:00- 19:00. Location: zoom Teleconference.

Dalila Honorato, Prof. of the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, participates in the exhibition FISSURA at the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL). The exhibition, curated by Sally Santiago and organized by Cultivamos Cultura, brings together diverse artistic perspectives and can be viewed from February 6th to February 24th, 2025.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, participates in the international conference "Musicology and Music Librarianship in Cultural Context", organized by the "Lilian Voudouri" Music Library of the Athens Concert Hall, in honor of Stefania Merakou, at the Athens Concert Hall. The congress take place in February 20-21, 2025 in Athens Concert Hall.

The Ionian University’s Department of Audio and Visual Arts is pleased to announce the successful selection of candidates for the inaugural Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts program for the academic year 2024–2025. Classes are set to begin on Monday, 3 February 2025, marking the start of an innovative program that explores the dynamic intersections of art, science, and technology.

The University Gym of the Ionian University will hold its first hike on Sunday 16/02/2025, in the area of Nymphes. Those interested can register on the days and times of the program, to the responsible teachers or upon request with the hiking manager Angeliki Mavropoulou. Due to limited places, a strict first-come, first-served order will be observed.

The General Assembly of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, by the postgraduate program regulations, compiled the Table of Selected Candidates (Table 1) and the Table of Rejected Candidates (Table 2) for the MARes “Master of Research in Hybrid Arts” for the academic year 2024-2025, based on the ranking order of applicants as determined by the criteria outlined in Article 11. For data protection purposes, only the application codes of the candidates are listed in Tables 1 and 2.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, wrote the Introduction of the academic monograph “Radio Sound”, written by Spyros Kavakopoulos (Papazisi’s Publications). The book presentation will take place on Monday, January 20th 2025, at 7:30 PM, IANOS Bookstore (24 Stadiou Street, Athens).

The Organizing Committee of the Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT) Conference is delighted to announce its sixth international gathering, taking place from September 9-13, 2025, at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, Slovenia. TTT2025 invites submissions from artists, researchers, and thinkers who explore interdisciplinary themes within art and science to submit their papers, artist-talks and artwork presentation proposals until 31 December 2024 via the conference's digital platform. The Panteion University, the Municipality of Kallithea, the Kallithea Chess Club and the Korydallos Chess Club, announce the Panhellenic Inter-University Chess Championships 2024. Specifically, two events will be held, the Individual Inter-University Chess Championships 2024 and the Team Inter-University "Planted" Chess Championships 2024, on 19 December 2024 in Athens.

The short film script Kalimantzaro by Konstantina Karavassili, a student of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, won the 1st Prize for Original Short Screenplay at the Screenwriters' Guild of Greece's Awards Ceremony on December 2nd, 2024, hosted by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. The awards of the 11th Panhellenic Short and Long Original Screenplay Writing Contest of the Screenwriters' Union of Greece and the 8th Panhellenic Writing Contest for a Theatrical Play and a 30-page Theatrical Play were presented at the event. The presenters of the event were Alexandra Georgopoulou M.K.F. and Alexandros Kakavas, President of the Guild. For the category of short film scripts, four scripts were awarded with praise, while three prizes were awarded, of which Konstantina Karavassili was awarded the first place.
