General Announcements

The General Assembly of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, by the postgraduate program regulations, compiled the Table of Selected Candidates (Table 1) and the Table of Rejected Candidates (Table 2) for the MARes “Master of Research in Hybrid Arts” for the academic year 2024-2025, based on the ranking order of applicants as determined by the criteria outlined in Article 11. For data protection purposes, only the application codes of the candidates are listed in Tables 1 and 2.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, wrote the Introduction of the academic monograph “Radio Sound”, written by Spyros Kavakopoulos (Papazisi’s Publications). The book presentation will take place on Monday, January 20th 2025, at 7:30 PM, IANOS Bookstore (24 Stadiou Street, Athens).

Ionian University Library & Information Centre publishes the monthly bulletin on the productivity of Ionian University's researchers, based on Scopus and MDPI.

The Organizing Committee of the Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT) Conference is delighted to announce its sixth international gathering, taking place from September 9-13, 2025, at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, Slovenia. TTT2025 invites submissions from artists, researchers, and thinkers who explore interdisciplinary themes within art and science to submit their papers, artist-talks and artwork presentation proposals until 31 December 2024 via the conference's digital platform. The Panteion University, the Municipality of Kallithea, the Kallithea Chess Club and the Korydallos Chess Club, announce the Panhellenic Inter-University Chess Championships 2024. Specifically, two events will be held, the Individual Inter-University Chess Championships 2024 and the Team Inter-University "Planted" Chess Championships 2024, on 19 December 2024 in Athens.

The short film script Kalimantzaro by Konstantina Karavassili, a student of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, won the 1st Prize for Original Short Screenplay at the Screenwriters' Guild of Greece's Awards Ceremony on December 2nd, 2024, hosted by the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. The awards of the 11th Panhellenic Short and Long Original Screenplay Writing Contest of the Screenwriters' Union of Greece and the 8th Panhellenic Writing Contest for a Theatrical Play and a 30-page Theatrical Play were presented at the event. The presenters of the event were Alexandra Georgopoulou M.K.F. and Alexandros Kakavas, President of the Guild. For the category of short film scripts, four scripts were awarded with praise, while three prizes were awarded, of which Konstantina Karavassili was awarded the first place.

On Monday 9 December 2024 at 12pm, Room TP3, artist Matthias Fritsch will give a lecture entitled "Permakunst: Art, Networks and Sustainability". The lecture is part of the course "THE906 Practice of Exhibition Design" taught by Daphne Dragona.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University’s School of Music and Audiovisual Arts is announcing the new Master of Arts by Research Program (MARes) in Hybrid Arts for the academic year 2024-2025. The University Gym, organizes the 1st University Sports Championship for all departments of the Ionian University, in the context of getting acquainted with some of the sports that exist in the University Gymnasium and invites all students to take part.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, is invited to participate at the Conference "50 years of Greek song: 1974-2024: sociological and cultural approaches", organized by the Laboratory of Cultural and Optical Studies of the Dpt of Journalism & Media, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The conference will take place at the University Campus, 26-27 November, Thessaloniki

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor, Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Ιonian University, is invited to participate at the International Musicological Conference "Soundtracks of Power: The Nexus of Film Music, Political Narratives and Moving Images", organized by the National University of Music, Bucharest. Paper title: "History-Music-Cinema: The role of Music in ideologizing Cinema. From the National Epopy of the Greek Revolution 1821 to the Music Epopy of the Greek Cinema." The Conference takes place at the Auditorium Hall of the National University of Music, Bucharest, 28-30 November.

The Interactive Arts Lab at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University, announces four unpaid open positions for students interested in developing their skills and gaining practical experience during their studies as Lab Operators. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their skills by learning from the Lab's instructors.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts/ Ionian University, participates in the Languages and the Media Conference 2024  «New Frontiers in Media Localization», with the lecture: «Transcoding Music and Sound Into Subtitling for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Viewers: The Case of the film "Dunkirk" (2017)». Dates: 13-15.11.2024.

Rena Katsenou, Ioannis Deliyannis, and Dalila Honorato will take part in the 17th Annual International Conference on Education, Research, and Innovation (ICERI2024), which will be held in Seville, Spain, on November 11-13, 2024. Their research, titled "Kindergarten Teachers’ Conversations with Froufrou: Human/AI Interaction as a New Anthropological Field," explores the interaction between educators and artificial intelligence as a new hybrid field, where new forms of social knowledge can emerge. The presentation aims to deepen the understanding of the dynamics formed by these interactions and to examine their potential impacts on educational practice and theory. The goal of this research is to contribute to the dialogue around contemporary challenges and opportunities in education, opening new horizons for academic and applied research.

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Agnes Papadopoulou and Laboratory Teaching Personnel Dr. Emmanouel Rovithis will present the paper entitled Art and Education: contradictions, conflicts, pluralism and protection of democracy in the game "The Other Half" at the Scientific Conference "Education for Active Global Citizenship" organized by the Institute of Educational Policy.

As part of the program for the celebration of the 20 years of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, the Interactive Arts Laboratory and the MA Programme Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age announce two events by the artist Filippos Tsitsopoulos on November 5-6, 2024. The guest lecture is open to all the students of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts within the framework of the course Art of Performance (coordination: teacher Christina Mitsani). 

In the framework of the Panhellenic festival "Electroacoustic Music Days 2024", Saturday 2 November, the work "59 Winds" is presented, which the Professor of the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, Apostolos Loufopoulos, composed in collaboration with Myrto Korkokiou, flutist, composer and doctoral researcher the Ionian University. The work has been awarded 1st prize at the Franco Evangelisti composition competition (Italy) and has been published in sheet music by Zerboni (Milan) and Forton Music (London)

Two works by PhD candidate Thanasis Epitideios will be presented at the national festival "Days of Electroacoustic Music" in Athens, along with works by important artistic personalities from Greece and abroad. These works implement the language of electroacoustic music and utilize the cutting edge of technology, as they include sound modeling of nature and projection through a 3D sound reproduction system.

The Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) will host a joint talk on October 23 at 11:00 AM by Dr. Prof. Dalila Honorato and Adam Zaretsky, PhD. Both are known for their unique and transgressive approaches to the intersection of art and biology. The talk, titled "Bioart - The Art and Politics of Art and Life Science Workshopology," will take place at the C' Sculpture Lab.

Dalila Honorato, Prof. of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, is one of the participants in the exhibition Metamorphosis by the Ectopia Experimental Art Lab in Lisbon. With the aim of brings together themes of identity, transformation, and the seen & unseen realities this exhibition prompts the visitors to question the nature of information, and how it impacts their memory, perspectives, and beliefs. The exhibition started on October 11th and will remain open until December 8th, 2024.

A three-day event on Sound Art and Electroacoustic Music in Greece will be hosted from 18-10 to 20-10 at the Athens Concert Hall, organized by the Department of Digital Arts and Film and the Department of Music Studies of the Athens University of Music and Performing Arts, bringing together many composers and representatives of the contemporary music avant-garde in Greece. Apostolos Loufopoulos, after an honorary invitation and in collaboration with Myrto Korkokiou, representing the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, participates with the composition Machine Gun Cut (flute and electronics), which has been awarded 1st prize in the international electroacoustic music competition MUSICA NOVA - Czech Republic.  

Maria Aslanidi, Specialized Teaching Staff of the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts, participates in the "6th UNIMARC Users Meeting: charting the course: future-forward cataloguing with UNIMARC", which takes place in Maribor (Slovenia), on 12.11.2024 as a member of PUC (Permanent UNIMARC Committee) of IFLA. 

The article, titled “Introducing Digitized Cultural Heritage to Wider Audiences by Employing Virtual and Augmented Reality Experiences: The Case of the v-Corfu Project”, presents a holistic approach to the design and implementation of projects that promote cultural heritage using immersive Virtual and Augmented Reality experiences, with the aim of attracting wider audiences. The article was written by a team consisting of Vasileios Komianos, Assistant Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Athanasios Tsipis, Assistant Professor at the Department of Digital Media and Communication and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts and Dr. Aikaterini Kontopanagou.

The Terrabytes Glitch Lab, a phygital collective founded by Augusto Calçada and Xristina Sarli, announces the launch of the TTTLab Official VR World. Developed during their online interaction with participants of the TTTlabs BioFeral.BeachCamp Fall 2024 on the island of Crete from September 15 to 25, this immersive virtual reality project brings together artists, researchers, and technologists to explore new forms of creative expression that blend the digital and physical worlds.

Dr. Heidi Hehnly-Chang (USA) and Dr. Boryana Rossa (Bulgaria/USA) from Syracuse University have been selected to participate in TTTfellows: Art and Science Residency 2024 Fall taking place on 23 September - 4 October 2024 (online) and 7-18 October 2024 in-person on the island of Corfu. TTTfellows is organized by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, within the framework of Rewilding Cultures, a project co-financed by the European Union, and will be hosted in collaboration with the Corfu Central Public Historical Library - Corfu Tech Lab, the Corfu Aquarium and BiHELab.

A delegation of the Ionian University led by the Rector, Professor Andreas Floros, paid an official visit to China from 18 to 28 September 2024.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University participates through the Postgraduate Program in Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age, and the AVARTS team, in the annual exhibition Platforms Projects - Independent Art Fair 2024, which will take place October 10-13, 2024, in Athens.
