On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., the public defense of the doctoral thesis of Ms. Styliani-Anna Klimatsaki, PhD candidate in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at Ionian University and member of the Interactive Arts Lab, will take place in the Conference Room (ground floor, Building of the Departments of History and Archives -Library Studies, Ionian University). The doctoral thesis is entitled: “Incest in World Cinema: The Performance of Gender, Social Roles, and Sexual Orientations in Cinematic Representations of Incestuous Relationships”. Τhe dissertation has been conducted under the supervision of Professor Dalila Honorato, with Professor Aristeidis Tsantiropoulos and Associate Professor Agnes Papadopoulou serving as members of the advisory committee.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University is pleased to announce the opening of the Call for Proposals for the 7th Interdisciplinary Conference Taboo – Transgression – Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT2027 Vienna), taking place from 14 to 17 September 2027 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Angewandte), Austria. Submission deadline: 11 November 2026

On Friday, October 30, 2026, Dr. Emmanouel Rovithis, Laboratory Teaching Staff at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, will deliver a lecture in the context of the postgraduate program “Audiovisual and Immersive Technologies Art” of the RISEBA University of Applied Sciences in Riga, Latvia. His talk is entitled “Embodied Sound Dramaturgy as a Means of Theatrical Storytelling”.

Associate Professor Renata Dalianoudi, of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University, will participate in an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), following an invitation from the Department of Electronic Music/ University of Bologna/ Conservatorio di Musica“Giovan Battista Martini” in Bologna and Professor Francesco Giomi. The programme will take place from 26 October to 3 November 2026  

Daphne Dragona, Assistant Professor in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, is taking part in a symposium taking place at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi on 26 and 27 October 2026. The symposium is organised by the Fondazione In Between Art Film to mark the group exhibition ‘Canicula’, which is currently on display in Venice at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto. Daphne Dragona will be giving a lecture entitled “Blinded by It All: On Art, Agency, and Critical Distance".

Sounds recorded across the Ionian Islands will travel to South Korea this October, closing one of the international sound art festivals of the season. Thanasis Epitideios, a PhD candidate in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at Ionian University, supervised by Professor Apostolos Loufopoulos, has been selected through an international open call to take part in Sonic Nomads 2026: "Listen with". The festival runs from 22 to 25 October 2026 at Seoul National University Powerplant (SNU Powerplant) in Seoul.

Daphne Dragona, Assistant Professor in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, will be presenting a paper at the conference “Re-examining AI, Rethinking Modernity: Critical philosophical, anthropological and interdisciplinary perspectives on technology”, organised by the Department of History and Digital Humanities and to be held in person on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October 2026, in the ‘Georgios Grammatikakis Hall’ at the Ionian Academy in Corfu.

Angelos Floros, Associate Professor in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, is presenting a paper at the international conference Communicating for a Better World. The conference is organised by the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University and the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center, in collaboration with United Nations entities, and takes place in New York on 21–23 October 2026.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor of Music and Audiovisual Culture at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts of Ionian University, will participate as a conference presenter and session chair in the international conference “Digital Folklore 2.0: Folk Culture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,”organised by the Department of Primary Education, School of Humanities, University of the Aegean. Ionian University, and particularly its Department of Audio and Visual Arts, will have a strong presence at the conference, with the participation of five doctoral researchers supervised by Professor Dalianoudi: Panagiotis Sdoukos, Evi Chlorou, Stelios Stromatias, Angeliki Lyginou, and Anna Maria Giannakodimou. The conference will take place in Rhodes and Chalki, Greece, from 16 to 18 October 2026.

The Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Argos is pleased to welcome Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of Ionian University, as the guest speaker at the opening event of its new cultural year. Renata Dalianoudi will deliver a lecture entitled “Cultural Organisations and the Management of Music and Dance Heritage: Reflections and Proposals.” The event will take place on 12 October, 20:00, at the premises of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Argos, 16 Danaou Street, Argos, Greece.

Mentors of undergraduates for the academic year 2026-2027: Mentors.

The exhibition “Digital Entities” is being hosted from October 8 to 25 by MOMUS—Experimental Arts Center, at Warehouse B1 in the Port of Thessaloniki. The exhibition marks the tenth anniversary of the Ionian University’s Master’s Program in “Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age.” Exhibition curator: Professor Konstantinos Tiligadis, Director of the Master’s Program. The opening will take place on Thursday, October 8, at 8:30 p.m.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor in the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts at Ionian University, will serve for the third consecutive year as Chair of the Jury for the auditions of candidates seeking to join the Mixed Choir of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women (Central Branch), alongside other distinguished members of the jury, including musicologists, pianists, and composers. The auditions will take place on Monday, 28 September 2026, at 7:30 p.m., in the main hall of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women, 14 Dimokritou Street, Athens.

The encounter between West and East, between art music and folk traditions, and between harmonic and modal musical languages, is articulated through arrangements of folk repertoire enriched by elements of art-music harmony and, at times, by a distinctly jazz-inflected sensibility. At the heart of this musical dialogue lies the interplay between the piano and the oud, as well as the lute. Through an approach of creative re-elaboration, folk plucked-string instruments—including the oud, lute, and mandolin—alongside solo voice and choral singing, enter into dialogue with the harmonic and timbral nuances of the Western piano. The performance explores the aesthetic and expressive possibilities that emerge from the meeting of different musical traditions, idioms, and performance practices, creating a contemporary space of musical exchange between tradition and artistic re-creation. Participation of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts in the International Forum of Performance Art 2026.  Participating students: Adelaida Zaimi, Zisis Kamanas, Konstantina Kourtaki, Dimitra Kostopoulou, Theodosis Margomenos, and Anthi Tavlaridou. Maria Aslanidi, special teaching personnel at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, is participating at the first annual IFLA Europe Regional Division Committee Symposium to Explore Library Advocacy Across Europe, 25.9.2026. Presentation title: 'Libraries speak. Are we listening?' The event takes place at the University of Piraeus.

The 22nd Panhellenic Conference of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women, under the overarching theme “Migration & Identity: Social, Economic and Cultural Dimensions,” will be held in Ioannina from 10 to 13 September 2026. Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, has been invited to participate as a speaker and chair of a roundtable discussion. The title of her presentation is “Migration as Cultural Identity: The Case of Epirus,” and it will take place on Friday, 11 September, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Board of Governance of the Ionian University decided on the announcement for the admission of foreign-alien students to the Department of Music Studies, in the Music Performance and to the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, Undergraduate Study Program, in accordance with the provisions of Article 58 of 5094/2024 (Α΄ 39), for the academic year 2026-27. The period for submission of candidacies is set from 14/07/2026 to 17/09/2026.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University is organizing the ICONA 2026 Festival from November 12 through November 15, 2026.

Maria Aslanidi, special research teaching personnel of the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, is participating as a member of the IFLA Accessibility Metadata Network at the 90th IFLA World Library and Information Congress, which this year has the theme: 'Libraries Powering Transformation'. On August 10, 2026, the research team will present a scientific paper titled: 'Transforming Access: Inclusive Metadata for Audiovisual Resources'.

Renata Dalianoudi, Associate Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University and Scientific Director of the Institute of Greek Music Heritage (IEMΚ), participates in the World Congress of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML), which will take place for the first time in Greece and in Thessaloniki. The title of Renata Dalianoudi’s paper is: “The Performativity of Archives in Concert Halls and Performance Venues: Case Study, the Upcoming Exhibition ‘Thessaloniki: The Musical Palimpsest in the Twentieth Century — Popular and Art Music Creation’, organized by the Institute of Greek Music Heritage (IEMK) and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.” The Congress will take place in Thessaloniki from 28 June to 3 July 2026.

The partners of the Feral Labs Network and the Creative Europe project Rewilding Cultures (2022–2026) are pleased to announce the online launch of Feral Labs Node Book #3: Fa Fa Futures, the newest volume in the evolving book series. Edited by Dalila Honorato, Iakovos Panagopoulos, Tina Dolinšek, and Uroš Veber, the publication brings together artists, researchers, curators, educators, technologists, and cultural practitioners from across Europe and beyond to explore ferality as a methodological, ecological, artistic, and political condition emerging through transdisciplinary artistic research, collective experimentation, situated knowledge, and more-than-human relations. The volume includes texts by the editors as well as Prathima Muniyappa, Veroniki Korakidou, Matheus da Rocha Montanari, Emma Hallemas, Anna Isaak-Ross, Rita de Almeida Leite, Marta de Menezes, Sabina Oroshi, Sergey Dmitriev, Andrew Gryf Paterson, Steffan Jones Hughes, Irene Posch, Mario Savini, Chelsea Coon, WhiteFeather Hunter, Clare Stott, Sophia Vrioni, Martyna Groth, Camila Torralbo, Adam Zaretsky, Maja Smrekar, and Ewen Chardronnet.
