The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) joyously celebrates its genetic kinship with the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University in its 20th Anniversary year. The festival has become a symbol of creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the contemporary arts landscape, evolving into a dynamic force that reflects the dedication of its faculty, administrative staff, students, alumni, and esteemed guest collaborators.

Since its inception in 2006, AVfest has been on a transformative journey, and the 2024 edition stands as a testament to its growth. The festival has expanded its horizons introducing a diverse range of new activities and fostering strategic collaborations with other institutions. Core showcases, such as screenings (animation, films, documentaries, video art, etc.), electro-acoustic music concerts, exhibitions in photography, illustration-comics, installations, live performances, as well as radio and gaming events, have not only persisted but have been elevated to new heights. Moreover, the introduction of book presentations focusing on the discussion of new media arts, symposia with alumni sharing professional perspectives after graduation, and acclaimed performances by the student group AVARTS THEATRE have added layers of depth and engagement to the festival, resonating with the local community.

AVfest has become a platform that encourages participants to explore the intersections between traditional and emerging forms of media. In the spirit of fostering collaboration, AVfest 2024 actively promotes interdisciplinary projects among students from different disciplines within the audiovisual arts department. This initiative breaks down disciplinary silos, fostering a sense of community and allowing for the emergence of truly innovative and interdisciplinary creative expressions. Aligned with the integrated events, the conference "Digital Cultures and AudioVisual Challenges" (DCAC) and the cycle of workshops and seminars, AV-School, the festival has also assumed a vital role as a safe hub and rite of passage for future graduates entering the working market.

AVfest – reaching beyond the Ionian Islands and transcending boundaries – welcomes audiovisual arts researchers, contributing to the nurturing of a thriving artistic community on a national and international scale. Moreover, in the spirit of fostering inclusivity and diversity, AVfest stands as an unwavering equal opportunities initiative. We are dedicated to upholding principles that reject discrimination on any basis, including but not limited to sex, race, color, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, birth, disability, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation. AVfest is committed to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can engage in the celebration of contemporary sonic and visual arts without prejudice.

The organization of AVfest is deeply appreciative of the continuous support from the individuals who form an integral part of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University. In addition, through collaborative efforts with local authorities, private sponsors, and dedicated volunteers, AVfest strives to ensure the accessibility of its events with free admission. This invaluable support enables us to maintain a platform that remains open to all, fostering a sense of community and shared appreciation for the transformative power of the audiovisual arts.
