9th Audiovisual Arts Festival
May 27 - 31, 2015, Corfu

For the last fifteen years, the Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) is held by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University, in Corfu, Greece. Each year the Audiovisual Arts Festival features a series of artistic and scientific activities, presenting the results of the creative, educational and research work developed by its organizing institution in the fields of contemporary sonic and visual arts.

The Festival’s influence has gradually expanded aiming to provide an ideal meeting point for artists and researchers through media art events, workshops and academic conferences.

The 9th Audiovisual Arts Festival has completed its annual activities, confirming once again its role as a cultural pillar of the island of Corfu. During the previous days, the public has had the opportunity to come into contact with notable work presentations of the students and professors of the Department of Audiovisual Arts and the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, including installations, drawing, painting, comics and graphic arts exhibitions, electroacoustic music concerts, as well as 3D mapping projections.

In addition, those events of artistic nature were accompanied by parallel actions, such as the organizing of the Symposium on “Sound in Motion”, and the conference on the concept of "Motion" in the arts, as well as an open discussion on the theme of “Theory in Artistic Creation”.

Furthermore, continuing the practice of the previous years, a realization of outward partnerships was pursued, including collaborations with a wide range of scientific and educational institutions, as well as individual artists of the new media. This year, the Audiovisual Arts Festival hosted the Symposium and Seminar courses on “Art and Communication”, organized by the “Kostis Palamas” project of the University of Athens, while, additionally, its program included the work of invited artists and members of the European Arts, Science and Technology Network (EASTN).

At this point, we would like to express our warm gratitude towards the Municipality of Corfu, for its full support for the organization, and of course all of you, the Festival’s audience, for its continuous presence and participation in our events. We renew, thus, our meeting for the next Audiovisual Arts Festival.
