Ionian University Supported Art Researcher Explores Indigenous Dance as Anti-Colonial Resistance

Ghazal Ramzani, a Berlin-based Iranian dancer and choreographer, has completed groundbreaking research connecting indigenous dance practices to anti-colonial and ecological movements across Europe supported by Ionian University. Ramzani, who received funding through the Rewilding Cultures Mobility Conversation program in 2024, traveled by train across Europe to interview practitioners of indigenous dances rooted in resistance movements. Ramzani holds a Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Performative Arts from the University of Gothenburg and received formal training in Kathak dance at the National School of Kathak in New Delhi. She was previously awarded the Indian Council of Arts and Culture recognition and the Artisens Vanner scholarship.

AV-school, the series of seminars and workshops of the Audiovisual Arts Festival, will be held at the Public Central Historic Library at Corfu from May 28th to May 31st, 2024. AV-School 2024 theme is “Impressions” and it celebrates the Department of Audio and Visual Arts’ 20th Anniversary. The program is open to all those interested in contemporary art issues and new technologies, focusing this year in topics related with film, performance art, radio, gaming and art research. Registration for both workshops and seminars is free, and attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
