Date & Time: Opening 18/05/2016 19:00 & 19-23/05/2016 10:00-16:00
Location: Municipal Gallery
An exhibition including photographic and audiovisual material with selected artwork from bioartist Adam Zaretsky as part of the programme of the 10th Audiovisual Arts Festival (17-22 May) of the Ionian University.
The exhibition takes place at the Municipal Gallery of Corfu (Old Town) from May 18th until May 23rd, working hours 10-16:00. Zaretsky, based in New York, has showed his work in the USA, Canada, Netherlands, Lithuania, Portugal, Japan as well as Australia and this is the first time he will be exhibiting in Greece.
Zaretsky's art approaches controversial bioethical issues and, for this reason, the exhibition, entitled iGMO, focuses on some of its essential aspects ethology, ecology and embryology. The content of the exhibition is a proof of the artist's particularly provocative humor and the highly participatory role of the public during his performances, underlining as well his personal attempt to spread awareness on the consequences of biotechnology. The exhibition was curated by Dalila Honorato.
During his permanence in Corfu, Adam Zaretsky will participate in the conference "Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence in Art & Science", May 20-22, and he will conduct the workshop "DIY Hybrid DNA Isolation: How to Extract DNA from Anything Living", May 19th. The same day the documentary DIYSECT, on Bioart and DIY biology, will be screened.
