What is the process and the challenges of comics translation?
What is lettering?
Which is the required know-how?
How can a translator cooperate with an editor and a graphic designer?
Is there a theoretical approach for this procedure?
What are the difficulties in practice?
Can a translated comic have a wide appeal in a foreign country?
Images, words, fonts, implications, humour, slang, everyday language... These are some of the challenges we aim at facing during the said interactive Comics Translation Workshop supported by The Language Project.
Danai Tachtara studied translation at the Ionian University (study languages: English and French) and soon after she moved to Malaga (Spain) where she completed her MA in Translation for the Publishing world, specializing in literary translation. At the University of Malaga, she will also complete her PhD in the translation of onomatopoeias in comics. She has translated poetry, short stories and comics from English, Spanish and Catalan into Greek, while she also participate in a collective translation of Greek poetry into Spanish.
Zoi Resta has obtained her Bachelor degree on Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University, her Master degree on Conference Interpreting and her PhD on Interpreting Studies at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During her studies she was offered academic distinctions and scholarships from the General Directorate of Interpreting (EU), the Greek Ministry of Education, the University of Innsbruck and the Aristotle University. Since 2011 she has been working as a conference interpreters’ trainer at the Ionian University and as a freelance translator and interpreter. She has also participated in many national and international conferences, with announcements regarding interpreting studies. Currently she is also member of the cultural initiative “The Language Project”, promoting translation in the general public.
