9th Audiovisual Arts Festival
May 27 - 31, 2015, Corfu

For the last fifteen years, the Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) is held by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University, in Corfu, Greece. Each year the Audiovisual Arts Festival features a series of artistic and scientific activities, presenting the results of the creative, educational and research work developed by its organizing institution in the fields of contemporary sonic and visual arts.

The Festival’s influence has gradually expanded aiming to provide an ideal meeting point for artists and researchers through media art events, workshops and academic conferences.

The Organizing Committee of the Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science (TTT) Conference is delighted to announce its sixth international gathering, taking place from September 9-13, 2025, at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, Slovenia. TTT2025 invites submissions from artists, researchers, and thinkers who explore interdisciplinary themes within art and science to submit their papers, artist-talks and artwork presentation proposals until 31 December 2024 via the conference's digital platform. The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2024 is to present the best from the field of animation from all around the world. The festival also aims to preserve and help develop the cultural heritage of animated film, contribute to creation of new films, provide ground for potential international co-productions and encourages dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public. The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival, a central event of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (AVARTS) of the Ionian University, ended on Sunday (02/06) with great success and large public attendance. For 10 days (May 23 – June 2, 2024) an original program of artistic, scientific and educational events provided the city of Corfu with new cultural experiences, gaining the attention of the academic and the local community.

  A new collective volume titled "Beauty and Monstrosity in Art and Culture," by editors Angeliki Malakasioti, Assistant Professor of the Department of Audio and Visual and Image Arts at the Ionian University, and Chara Kokkiou, Visiting Assistant Professor at Tulane University, has been just published by Routledge (2024). The book is part of the Routledge Research in Art History (...)

The 9th Festival of Audiovisual Arts took place on May 2015 and it was the first without the participation of the founding member of its organizing commitee Associate Professor Marianne Strapatsakis. Τhe festival presented works by students and faculty of the depts. Music Studies and Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, as well as artwork by guest artists and members of the European Art Science Technology Network project (EASTN). As part of the festival was organised a symposium on the topic of "Sound in Motion/Theory in Artistic Practice" with speakers such as: Anastasia Pistofidou, Marcelo Queiroz, Panagiota Koutsoukou, Anastasia Kouzoupi, Gina Giotaki, Maria Papanicolaou, Georgia Kalodiki and Eleni Kasapi. The symposium included as well a series of concerts by Georgia Kalodiki, Hassina Sakhri, Stavros Sakellariou, Volkmar Klien, as well as a closing concert with Pavlos Vakalos, Iannis Zannos and Ivana Zuskinová. The 2015 festival’s program also included a cycle of seminars and workshops co-organized with the project "Kostis Palamas" of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens on the topic of "Arts and Communication".
