13th Audiovisual Arts Festival
May 6 - May 12, 2019, Corfu

For the last fifteen years, the Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) is held by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University, in Corfu, Greece. Each year the Audiovisual Arts Festival features a series of artistic and scientific activities, presenting the results of the creative, educational and research work developed by its organizing institution in the fields of contemporary sonic and visual arts.

The Festival’s influence has gradually expanded aiming to provide an ideal meeting point for artists and researchers through media art events, workshops and academic conferences.

The 13th Audiovisual Arts Festival included a large number of events in the city of Corfu, organized by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts in collaboration with the Laboratory of Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications-Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University. Covering a wide range of artistic, educational and scientific activities, the program of the Festival 2019 included multiple works from students, an exhibition of the artistic work by Anna Vasof, a tribute to the director Vouvoula Skoura, electro-acoustic music concerts and various street events. The 2nd International Conference on Digital Culture and Audiovisual Challenges reopened its doors and welcomed the international dialogue on interdisciplinary creativity and its relationship to art and technology with Brigitte Felderer as the keynote speaker and Vouvoula Skoura, Adnan Hadziselovic and Anna Vasof as guests. In terms of educational activities, the open cycle of seminars and workshops AV-School 2019 was performed in collaboration with the new Master of Arts and Technologies of Sound with instructors Adrian Moore, Adam Stanović and Ilan Green. Last but not least, the program of the 13th Audiovisual Arts Festival was supported by several collaborations with cultural institutions of Corfu - such as the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu, the Municipal Regional Theater of Corfu, the Photographic Club of Corfu, Corfu Scout Regional Office, Polytechno and Garage Performing Arts Center. Important were also the collaborations with three foreign universities: University of Sheffield, Musrara - the Naggar Multidisciplinary School of Art and Society and University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2024 is to present the best from the field of animation from all around the world. The festival also aims to preserve and help develop the cultural heritage of animated film, contribute to creation of new films, provide ground for potential international co-productions and encourages dialogue between professionals, filmmakers and the public. Extended submission deadline: 22/10/2024.

The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival, a central event of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (AVARTS) of the Ionian University, ended on Sunday (02/06) with great success and large public attendance. For 10 days (May 23 – June 2, 2024) an original program of artistic, scientific and educational events provided the city of Corfu with new cultural experiences, gaining the attention of the academic and the local community.
