Dialogic Interventions in Public Space
The course "Dialogical Interventions in Public Space" of the Master's Program in "Digital Forms of Art" at the Ionian University presents the audiovisual works of the students, the result of an educational process that explores the relationship between private and public space and life.
Through the sections "Reading" and "Writing," the participants mapped human behavior in public space and created autobiographical videos that connect personal memories with the city. The exhibition highlights the narratives of the urban landscape through the coexistence of image, sound, and text.
The "Reading" section focused on mapping and understanding human behavior and the heterogeneous elements of the urban environment. The theoretical framework was based on Michel Foucault's "Heterotopias," examining the principles that define heterotopias of crisis and deviation. The students were tasked with creating an audiovisual work composed of a combination of photographs and sound recordings, highlighting the significance of the public space as a living entity.
In the "Writing" section, the participants explored the anthropogeographical dimension of public space through the lens of childhood and adolescence. Initially, they created a psychogeographical map of the place where they grew up, mapping their memories and experiences. They then proceeded to write a personal text, which served as the primary narrative element of their audiovisual composition.
Participating works:
• Blind steps, Christodoulos Cheilakeas
• Always to 'os’, Markella Panteli
• My town, Jim Pourikas
• A piece of the world, Adelajda Zaimi
• My home, you, Valeria Mirzac
Course instructor: Angelos Floros
