This documentary highlights my grandfather’s hobby: polishing semi-precious stones. For years now, he has studied and built by himself the machines needed for processing the stones. In his spare time, he buys stones and polishes them, gradually building an impressive collection of stones in various shapes and sizes. The documentary presents two main techniques: polishing with a wheel and polishing with a tumbler. In the second method, the stones go through a repetitive process: every week, for five weeks, they are taken out of the tumbler, rinsed, processed, and placed back in.The goal of the documentary is to showcase specific stages of these processes — such as measuring, handling of powders, rinsing, and the final result — as well as to highlight my grandfather’s collection and his workspace. At the same time, it serves as a portrait of him, capturing his character and personality through his dedication to the hobby he loves, and through his relationship with me, his granddaughter.
