15th Audiovisual Arts Festival May

After two years, the Audiovisual Arts Festival presents a live program from May 12th to June 5th, 2022, in Corfu town. The annual festival has been organized since 2006 by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts in collaboration with the Laboratory of Electroacoustic Music Research & Applications of the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University. The program covers a wide range of artistic, educational and scientific activities focusing on the artistic creation of the students of these two departments.
This year the program begins with the opening of the festival and the exhibition of the Greek artist Dimitris Zouroudis on May 12th at the Municipal Gallery of Corfu. From May 23rd the festival events will increase with screenings, exhibitions, performances and concerts. Invited artists and academics are Klitsa Antoniou, Giannis Christidis, Nikos Synnos and Antonis Volanakis as well as the visual artist Giota Andriakaina. From May 30 to June 4 will take place a series of seminars and concerts dedicated to electroacoustic music, with compositions by students, professors and the international participation of guest musicians. Japanese composers Haruka Hirayama and Hideaki Isobe are also participating in the satellite event of this year's festival together with dancers Tasos Pappas-Petrides and Mary Randou, while notable are the collaborations with Athens Digital Arts Festival, International Drama Short Film Festival, Chania Film Festival, Cyprus University of Technology, Institute for the Experimental Arts and European Art-Science Network for Digital Creativity (EASTN-DC).
The 4th International Conference on Digital Cultures and AudioVisual Challenges is held on May 13th and 14th with presentations of research and applied work in the fields of digital art and technology. The conference’s keynote speaker is the internationally renowned Professor Alexandros Iosifidis of the University of Aarhus in Denmark, a specialist in machine learning. On May 15-20th takes place the 8th open cycle of seminars and workshops of AV-School where, in addition to members of the Ionian University, are also participating the film theorist Marios Psaras, short film directors Thanasis Neofotistos and Spyros Skandalos, theater director Varvara Douka, screenwriter Panagiotis Iosisfelis, actor, playwright and screenwriter Haris Bosinas, and performance artists Barbara Bridger, Sarahleigh Castelyn, Noèlia Diaz-Vicedo and Georgia Kalogeropoulou.
Admission to all events of the 15th Audiovisual Arts Festival is free with the support of the Ionian University and in partnership with Corfu Municipality, Corfu Municipal Gallery, Municipal Theater of Corfu, Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu, Corfu Hoteliers’ Association, Hotel Kontokali Bay, Politechno and Filmicon: Journal of Greek Film Studies. Last but not least the organization of the festival is made possible due to the priceless effort of its volunteers.
