The 12th Audiovisual Arts Festival of the Ionian University took place in May and June 2018 including a broad spectrum of artistic, educational and scientific activities with emphasis on the presentation of student works from the Department of Audio & Visual Arts and the Electroacoustic Music Research & Applications Lab. A large number of exhibitions, screenings, performances and concerts unfolded the creative abilities of both institutions including the students’ works of the MA in Audiovisual Arts. Remarkable moments of the Festival's program was the Honorary Degree Award to the artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila, the exhibition GENUS by the artist Rob Kesseler and the screenings dedicated to Portuguese animation. In the frame of the festival the 2nd Summer School in Hybrid Arts also took place with a series of workshops and seminars by educators from: Ionian University, Liverpool John Moores University, Central Saint Martins London, Istanbul Technical University, The Ohio State University and Hackteria ZET. Last but not least the 12th Audiovisual Arts Festival marks the beginning of the international conference Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges aiming to present theoretical and practical research in the fields of digital art and technology. Maurice Benayoun was the keynote speaker, and guest speakers were Elif Ayiter, Adnan Hadji, Antonios Liapis and Robertina Sebjanic.
