The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival, a central event of the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (AVARTS) of the Ionian University, ended on Sunday (02/06) with great success and large public attendance. For 10 days (May 23 – June 2, 2024) an original program of artistic, scientific and educational events provided the city of Corfu with new cultural experiences, gaining the attention of the academic and the local community.

The 17th Festival of Audiovisual Arts and the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts (AVARTS) of the Ionian University conclude on Sunday (02/06) at the Old Psychiatric Hospital with the following events.

An amateur theatre company struggling to put on a production of Pirandello's "Leonora, addio!" finds its members constantly at odds with each other, while at the same time having to follow the instructions of an authoritarian director who presents their play as nothing less than a gift from God.

AVARTS Live Game Hub is an action aiming to bring together new game designers and creators and showcase their ideas to the public. It is organized by teachers of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts with a coordinating core of Vassilis Komianos, Varvara Garnelis, and Emmanuel Rovithis, and is staffed by students who are actively involved in creating games.

The VR film that represented Greece at the 59th Venice Art Biennale is shown in an installation specifically designed for the Ionian Parliament as part of the Audio Visual Arts Festival 2024.

Students and graduates of the Ionian University present a tribute exhibition in memory of Iro Feidia, AVARTS graduate. The aim is to display her illustrative and digital artwork, but also to portray her as an individual, fellow student and friend. Despite her time being short, the plurality and diversity of her work is remarkable.

The Department of Audio & Visual Arts, of the Ionian University in Corfu organizes the 6th International Conference Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges: Interdisciplinary Creativity in Arts and Technology (DCAC- 2024, May 24-25). The Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, on the occasion of the 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival inaugurates on 28 May 2024 at 11:00 am the exhibition “Mutagenic Futures”, with artworks by artists Ken Rinaldo and Adam Zaretsky.

In the context of the 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival and the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, the "LiteRArt" Club celebrates its 2 years of operation with the Opening of the Exhibition "Artists’ Awakening", on Friday, May 31, 2024 (18:00) at the Library and Information Centre of the Ionian University.

The 17th Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) celebrates this year the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University highlighting the Department's unique contribution to the development of audiovisual arts. Applications are now open for TTTlabs: BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC) II - Spring 2014, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and the Ionian University within the Feral Labs Network. Dedicated to issues related to new reproductive technologies, TTTlabs: BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC) II under the theme New Repro-Zombie Studies (NR-ZS) - Undead Bioart / Bodyart on the Beach is taking place on 5-14 April 2024 (on-place) on the island of Crete. 

The fifth international conference Taboo - Transgression - Transcendence in Art & Science will take place September 27–29, 2023 in Valletta, Malta. Approximately 170 speakers from more than 30 countries focused (a) on questions about the nature of the forbidden and about the aesthetics of liminality, and (b) on the opening of spaces for creative transformation in the merging of science and art.

Hub of Art Laboratories (otherwise known as HAL), one of the most ambitious and innovative research programmes ever carried out by the Department of Audio and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, will receive its first major showcase at the upcoming Taboo – Transgression – Transcendence in Art & Science Interdisciplinary Conference, held in Valletta, Malta, between 26 and 29 September 2023.

The National Section of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts CIOFF®, official partner of UNESCO, the IONIAN UNIVERSITY and the Educational & Cultural Association of Sinies – Corfu,  organize the International CIOFF® Festival of Mediterranean Cultures, in Corfu, 6-10 September 2023.

AKOYSMATA 2023 include electroacoustic music concerts at the Ionian Academy on Saturday 27 and Monday 29 May and live electronic music concerts at POLYTECHNO on Sunday 28 and Tuesday 30 May.

AV-school hosts educational activities that take place in the framework of the Audiovisual Arts Festival. AV-School 2023 takes place May 14-16th in the premises of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts and its activities are open to all members of the academic community and general public.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts, in collaboration with the Electroacoustic Music Research & Applications Laboratory of the Ionian University, organizes the 16th Audiovisual Arts Festival, in Corfu from 11th to 29th May, 2023! The 16th collective photo show of students of Laboratory of Photography, Department of Audio-Visual Arts, will be open on the 5th of May at 20:00 at the Venetian Prisons of the Old Fortress. The selection and sequence of pictures has been chosen collectively, through the participants’ collaboration.

The announcement of the bases of admission to the Higher Educational Institutions for the academic year 2022-2023 had some very positive elements for the Department of Audio & Visual Arts that highlight its distinct and unique physiognomy, while at the same time confirming its upward trajectory that continued this year.

This weekend May 28-29th 2022 in Corfu town the program of the 15th Audiovisual Arts Festival has a strong presence of events with works by students of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University.

As part of the 15th Festival of Audiovisual Arts, the Photography Laboratory of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts is organizing the 15th Photography Exhibition, which will take place at the Prisons of the Old Fortress, in Corfu. Opening: Friday, 13/5/22, 20:00. Exhibition Duration: 13/05/2022 - 29-05-2022. Exhibition Curator: Antonis Zivas, Assistant Professor, Department of Audio & Visual Arts.

From Monday 2 to Friday 7 May, Ms Haruka Hirayama, Mr. Hideaki Isobe (Professors of Computer Music, Music Technology and New Media at Hokkaido Information University and Tokyo Music College) are visiting Corfu as guests of the European project EASTN-DC  (European Art-Science-Technology Network, Digital Creativity) and the Audiovisual Arts Festival of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, to develop and show projects at the Studio of the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Corfu.

The program of the 15th Audiovisual Arts Festival, which will take place on Μay 12th to June 5th 2022, covers, as every year, a wide range of artistic, educational and scientific activities.
