reSonaissance is an algorithmic sound work, composed and performed in real time using the ChucK programming language. The title of the piece is inspired by three concepts: renaissance, resonance, and reconnaissance. While algorithmic processes guide the composition, stochasticity ensures that each listening experience is different, continuously regenerating new nuances and patterns of resonance. The work invites the listener to recognize the ever-changing sonic details and to enjoy a unique listening experience with every performance. In this way, reSonaissance becomes a dynamic and living artwork that evolves and reshapes itself, always offering something new and unpredictable.
Thanasis Epitideios is a graduate of the Department of Sound and Musical Instrument Technology (now Department of Ethnomusicology) at the Ionian University and holds a Master's degree in "Sound Arts and Audio Technologies." During his studies, he developed an algorithm for creating real-time soundscapes using Pure Data.
Since 2020, he has collaborated with the Ionian University, teaching courses such as "Electronic Music" and "Sound Environments." From 2021 to 2023, he worked as a sound and electronics technician in the HAL project, and since 2012, he has been involved in the department’s annual Sound Festival.
He has been an active member of HELMCA since 2009. He worked on the Kea Municipality Fairy Tale Festival and participated in the 2023 performance Mystery91_Magnetic Dance at the Eleusis Festival. His work Liquid Dreaming was selected by HELMCA and presented at MusicAcoustica Hangzhou in 2023. Since February 2023, he has been pursuing a PhD on sound mimicry and algorithmic sound synthesis.
