Path of Life is an interactive installation that allows viewers to experience the passage of time through sound. As visitors move through the space (passageway) of the installation, they see their age increase and hear soundscapes representing each stage of life. It is a journey of memories and self-reflection, evoking emotions and thoughts about human existence and mortality.
The journey unfolds entirely based on the viewer’s movement; each step corresponds to a new age and a new soundscape. No instructions are required, making the experience universally understandable and intuitive. Viewers do not merely observe the art installation but become part of it, allowing time itself to shape their experience.
At the beginning of each experience, the maximum age that the visitor will reach is determined, thus creating a personalized narrative. This approach introduces an element of unpredictability into the experience. Each participant follows their unique path without knowing in advance to which age they’ll travel.
The soundscape is fully integrated into this process, giving voice to time itself. Sounds do not merely accompany but narrate the experience. From the first cry of a newborn to the silence of the final moments, sound becomes the thread linking memories with the present.
In the end, silence serves as the most powerful reminder of life.
It is the ultimate reminder of mortality and life’s continuity—a moment of reflection before the experience resets, ready to begin anew with the next visitor.
From a young age, Miltos Koustas began exploring the field of arts through music composition, video creation, painting and digital design. He is a graduate of the department of Informatics of the Ionian University and is currently doing postgraduate studies in "Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age" in the Department of Audio and Visual Arts. His many years of experience in the management of European cultural and artistic projects enhance his artistic practice, allowing the creation of works that speak directly to the viewer, provoking reflection and emotional involvement. This multi-faceted approach is reflected in his work, which combines techniques such as video projection mapping and audio-visual design, with the aim of creating experiential experiences that explore the concepts of time, memory and human existence.
