Distrace

"Distrace" is a performance that explores the fluidity of identity through the conflict between personal experience and social imperatives. It is a physical process of deconstruction and reconstruction, a continuous negotiation between the individual and the collective imprint. The body becomes the primary medium of narration, while the materiality of the installation soil, water, light acts as a catalyst for transition.

At the core of the piece lies a nylon corridor, creating the illusion of a protective framework, a social structure that promises stability yet simultaneously functions as a suffocating enclosure. Its transparent surface allows for observation but not absolute freedom. The internal lighting accentuates the tension between the natural and the artificial, between what we are and what we are compelled to become.

Initially, the body conforms to the spatial boundaries, integrated within a predefined structure. However, as the performance unfolds, conflict becomes inevitable. The soil, scattered across the surface, awaits activation it is there to be distorted, to adhere, to leave its indelible mark on the skin. Meanwhile, water seeps through, shifting balances, smoothing yet disrupting, enabling the transition to a new state of being.

"Distrace" is not merely a representation of inner identity but a ritual of stripping away and restoration. Matter shifts, the body transforms, and identity ceases to be a fixed entity. It is an act of questioning the established, an exploration of the self's boundaries, and ultimately, a challenge to ask: How much of what we are truly belongs to us?
