The performance "Self-Embrace" is an improvisation inspired by the artist's personal
experiences, but also by the creations of Mierle Laderman Ukeles and Marina Abramović. It
revolves around the self-destructive tendencies of our perfectionist nature when we are unable
to meet or exceed the high standards we set for ourselves. It further emphasizes the importance
of self-care as a means of counteracting the harmful effects of self-criticism and selfpunishment. Set, therefore, on a minimalist stage dominated by the element of ice, the
performance creates a tense and evocative atmosphere that, through almost repetitive
movements, encourages viewers to reflect on their own expectations, embrace their own
imperfections and prioritise their emotional and mental health.

My name is Valeria Mirzac and I am a second year student in the department of "Audio and
Visual Arts". Although I have been in contact with traditional arts since I was a child, through
the school I was introduced to performance, among other things. As a result, I discovered
the tool through which my concerns and worries come to the surface and through which I
aim to awaken the empathy of the audience.
