Department of Audio & Visual Arts - OPEN ART III, Curated by Angelos Floros
This year's theme of OPEN ART but also of the course ‘Sensory Mechanisms in the Arts΄ of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University, is derived from the the two-way communication between the body with the environment. The term and the field of Natural History incorporate a multitude of scientific fields such as biology, zoology, botany, oceanography, biochemistry, geology, astronomy, physics, meteorology and popular ecology, in a multifaceted biodiversity. A body-environment relationship in a symbiotic context: Both the environment and the body activate the nervous system to implement this communication and the sustainable continuation of the symbiotic relationship by transmitting coded signals to the receiver and capturing it by the transmitter. According to biology, relationships can be obligatory, that is, the survival of some species depends on other species, or optional, when they can live independently. The types of cohabitation that arise when two species communicate are based on the benefit or harm that the relationship causes to both species. Specifically, we encounter all possible cases. The educational program requested the creation of a work of art in the form of an audio environment based on the theme of the symbiotic relationship Body / Environment, redefining the roles and the content of the message, the coding language, the medium and the noise.
