Nikos Kanelakis

The idea for this project came from the need to find new audio material to work on newer pieces. Since I couldn't explore and record the sounds I wanted due to social distancing and quarantine, I looked again at older recordings only to find something exciting. Pieces from various recordings that were in a sense useless to me, became the primary element of this track. Recordings that were accidentally interrupted due to laughter, failed attempts, comments and ideas between takes and the awkward meeting with a farmer who interrupted us while we were recording an eldertree, wondering what we were doing. With those recordings I was able to create musical forms that sound like a dialogue. All these elements helped to finally capture and explore the properties of voice, the use of voice as a structural element or as narration and trying to reach the limits of voice recognition and comprehension.

Special Thanks to: Niki Chondrogianni, Niki Tsetsou, Alexandra Tsoukala for letting me use their voices.
