14th Audiovisual Arts Festival

For the last fifteen years, the Audiovisual Arts Festival (AVfest) is held by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, in collaboration with the ERHMEE Lab - Department of Music Studies, of the Ionian University, in Corfu, Greece. Each year the Audiovisual Arts Festival features a series of artistic and scientific activities, presenting the results of the creative, educational and research work developed by its organizing institution in the fields of contemporary sonic and visual arts.

The Festival’s influence has gradually expanded aiming to provide an ideal meeting point for artists and researchers through media art events, workshops and academic conferences.

The 14th Audiovisual Arts Festival toom place from 13 to 31 May 2021 including artistic, educational and scientific activities in an online broadcast due to the measures for the prevention of coronavirus. The annual festival is an organization of the Dept. Audio & Visual Arts in collaboration with the Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Lab-Dept. Music Studies of the Ionian University. The AVfest2021 program counted with the participation of 400 students, 30 professors, 20 artists and 60 researchers. AV-school, the open cycle of workshops and seminars in contemporary art and new technologies, had a remarkable participation counting with experts and artists from the international arena as guest instructors. The 3rd conference "Digital Cultures & AudioVisual Challenges" (DCAC) was organized as a two-day marathon of high-profile research presentations counting with prominent personalities from the field of new media Georgios N Yannakakis and Daniel Ballin as keynote speakers. Among others, the 14th Audiovisual Arts Festival can be also highlighted by the participation of international performance artists Mary Zygouri, Filippos Tsitsopoulos and Giannis Mitrou, as well the participation of bioartists Marta de Menezes and Adam Zaretsky. Also to remark is the collaboration with the European Art, Science, Technology Network in Digital Creativity (EASTN-DC) in the programming of a variety of events that are the pinnacle of the global dialogue on digital creativity technologies. The Festival’s externalization was marked by the collaborations with the University of Western Macedonia, the Athens Digital Arts Festival, the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association, Drama International Short Film Festival and the Portuguese institute Cultivamos Cultura. AVfest 2021 gave also emphasis to the connection with local artistic and educational institutions such as the Corfu Photography Club and the Corfu Scouts, while the support of the Municipality of Corfu and the Ionian Islands Region was significant. Finally, priceless was the contribution, within the Ionian University, of the OPEN ART program of the Training Center and Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM) as well as the Art & Science Research Group and the Web Team of the Interactive Arts Laboratory without whose help the online presence of the Festival would not be possible.
