The Department of Audio and Visual Arts (AVARTS) and the Department of Music Studies (Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Lab, EPHMEE) of the Ionian University once again jointly organize the 8th annual Festival of Audiovisual Arts. This year event coincides with both the 10th anniversary of the AVARTS Dept. and the EPHMEE Lab foundation, as well as the recent establishment of the School of Music and Audiovisual Arts, which is formed by both the above art-oriented departments of Ionian University.
The festival programme typically includes a wide range of artistic, educational and scientific activities, providing the opportunity to students from both departments to present their creative work. Additionally, the festival programme also highlights the overall results of the educational and research activities developed by both departments, particularly in the field of contemporary sonic and visual arts. Following last year's successful open call project, a two day scientific symposium will be organized in parallel, on May 16-17. The theme of this year symposium is: "Metamorphoses of Corporeality: Art-Body-Technology”. The programme of the symposium includes papers and art presentations, aiming at fostering the international interdisciplinary dialogue on issues related to the constant expansion of the physical capabilities of the human and their manifold implications for an interpretation of the body.
The festival's artistic and scientific programme is complemented with the presentation of digital interactive audiovisual works/installations and electronic music concerts by artists from Greece and abroad. Finally, the AVARTS graduates contribute dynamically by organizing special thematic workshops and information sessions for job placement and career perspectives, therefore underscoring the commemorative nature of this year's festival.
The Festival will be held on May 14-18, 2014, in Corfu. The admission to all events is free.
