The Young-Girl, as presented by Tiqqun in Preliminary Materials for a Theory of the Young-Girl is a controversial work of anti-capitalist philosophy that has attracted musicians, playwrights, feminists, theorists and activists. It was first published in France in 1999. More than twenty-five years after its publication, it shows no signs of weakening.
The Young-Girl is the total product of consumer society and a model citizen. Filled with the language of French women's magazines, rooted in the figure of Albertine of Proust (1925) and the amusing misery of (teenage) romance in Vittold Gombrowitz's Ferdinand Durke (1935), and informed by the concept of 'living currency' (1970) and Pierre Klossofsky's Libyan economy, diagnoses and makes visible a phenomenon that is so ubiquitous.
In this installation, the notion of friendliness is an essential issue in the communication with the artwork. The audience assumes an active role since, in part, it influences its final form; people define the work that they themselves will experience. The initial look of the work is a dress on a sewing doll, this dress has the ability to measure "How Young-Girl Are You?"
if you're a little, it turns blue.
If you're a lot, it turns pink and blue.
And if you're too much, it turns pink.
People are invited to enter room A blue or room B pink to watch the videos.
