Eleftheria Gkounta

This work aims to explore the concept of time and patience through a unique visual experience. Using video art, the dancer Lida Draganigou is depicted dancing in everyday locations where people typically experience the sensation of waiting, such as bus stops, queues in public offices, and laundromats.

The innovation of this work lies in the incorporation of sensors that activate the video when a viewer steps into a designated area measuring 40x40 centimeters. When the viewer steps away, the message “Please wait” appears, emphasizing the feeling of anxiety and anticipation that we all experience in everyday life.

In this way, the artist transforms moments of waiting into opportunities for creativity and expression, highlighting the paradox between lost time and the potential for personal expression. This interactive experience invites viewers to reflect on how they perceive time and their daily routines.

I was born in 1996 in Ioannina, where I grew up and shaped my first artistic explorations. In 2014, I moved to Athens to study at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens, from which I graduated in 2021. In 2023, I continued my studies in the Master’s Program “Audiovisual Arts in the Digital Age” at the Ionian University in Corfu.  I work steadily as an architect while also pursuing a career in music. Additionally, I have worked as a set designer and script supervisor in short films, gaining experience in combining audiovisual arts with storytelling. I also take on graphic design projects for album covers and other creative applications. I have experience in video editing, creating music videos and movie trailers, as video and cinema are a significant part of my artistic identity.  In my work, I explore issues such as the fast-paced lifestyle in large cities, our relationship with social media, and our connection to tradition, aiming to provoke thought and dialogue through my creative projects.
