Occasioned by a self-portrait aiming to be a presentation of myself, I created the work titled “I for the time being”, a video art negotiating the expression of the self and the mind-body relationship. Combining animation with improvisational corporal performance, I project a hybrid head, half illustration, half videotaped presence, that represents the self trying to come out. The illustration represents the ideas, thoughts, feelings, while the performance is the spontaneity, need, female presence. Upon this, I experiment with the use of religious iconographic elements as tools for symbolization, socio-political framing, creation of paradox and redefinition. The image, the icon, is not a projection of the human facade but a notion, a sense with a human form.
