The project “An homage to Lucinda" consists of photographs, texts and ready made objects in the space. As mentioned in the title, this work draws on references from Lucinda, a personality who profoundly influenced the inhabitants of Corfu. Her name was given by the people of the town who were mocking her. This fascinating old lady whose her walking was limp like, was given the name Lucinda after a ship that was sailing at the wild Ionian sea. In fact she exaggerated her disability in purpose and that shaped her image. Her image was majestic with long collars, jewellery with ID, silk scarves, ties, clothes with various prints and bright colours. Her make-up was like a Kabuki mask, with thinly painted eyebrows from the '20s, curved red lips from the ‘40s, blush of the same shade as the nails and painted beauty marks framing her face. To this day, Corfu residents use Lucinda's name to refer to someone who is overdressed. So, this person aroused my interest and through this project I wanted to "bring" her back to life so that other people could know her. Although Lucinda was an existing personality, I took her as a character that I would redefine through a fashion editorial, in order to narrate her life. My intention was to sketch the portrait of this woman as I perceive her through the texts, images and testimonies I collected. The character of this project has a post-documentary mood which means that the material of the project does not contain, nor could it, the completely objective existence of Lucinda and there is a fiction side to her story, but nevertheless, there is real research around her face.
