Ioannis Mitrou was born and lives in Thessaloniki. He is an artist and theorist of Contemporary Art and Psychoanalysis specializing in the art of Performance. He teaches at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Department of Visual and Applied Arts. Graduate of the Aristotle University, School of Physics. Fellow of the Institute of Nuclear Fusion in Orsay, Paris-Sud for original scientific research. He prepared his doctoral thesis: "Phenomenology of the unconscious: The example of the lacanian field" in collaboration of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the Department of Psychoanalysis, Paris VIII. Since 2003 he directs the research of the International Research Laboratory of Performing Arts – AlmaKalma. Among others he collaborates with: the Jerzy Grotowski Institute, Wroclaw, Poland, the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, Pondedera, Italy, the Department of Performing Arts of the Moscow Academy of Arts and the Klub Art Organization, New Orleans, USA. His research is about the relationship between art and science. He specializes in multi-collective performances with intersitivity in Museum spaces, galleries, etc., in the broadening of the relationship between body and media, as well as in the development of a physical method (Biodynamics), which interacts creatively with contemporary dance performance and performance in general. He is a psychoanalyst, a member of the F.E.B.E.
