The two departments of the Faculty of Music and Audiovisual Arts, the Department of Audio and Visual Arts (AVARTS) and the Department of Music Studies (Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Lab, EPHMEE), of the Ionian University join once again forces in order to organize the 10th annual Audiovisual Arts Festival, held from May 17 to May 22 2016 in Corfu.
Including a wide range of artistic, educational and scientific activities, the festival’s program provides the students of both Departments an opportunity to present their creative work. This is, also, a chance to highlight the overall results of the educational and research activities developed by the two Departments, particularly in the field of contemporary sonic and visual arts.
The festival’s main program will be complemented, among other events, with presentations of digital interactive audiovisual works/installations and electronic music concerts by artists from Greece and abroad. Ultimately, there will be workshops and educational events focusing on familiarizing the audience with new audiovisual technologies, as well as with the contemporary artistic expression using new media.
Entrance to all events is free for the public.
In the frame of this year’s festival, an interdisciplinary conference will be held under the title: “Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence in Art and Science” (May 20-22, 2016, Corfu), including theoretical contributions and artwork presentations. This international conference aspires to invigorate the dialogue on issues around the nature of the forbidden and the liminal, as they are expressed through science and art.
