The Department of Audio & Visual Arts (Ionian University) is organizing the “Greece – Puglia Experience Screenwriting Workshop“. The Workshop is part of the CIAK (Common Initiatives to AcKnowledge and valorize tourism potential of the programme area through cinema, INTERREG GREECE – ITALY) and the objective is to bring together the areas of western Greece (Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Greece) and Puglia Region through film scripts.
Acknowledging the potential role of the screen industry as a catalyst for tourism development is the milestone of CIAK project actions, whose objective is the promotion of the involved areas through cross-border initiatives linked to the audiovisual and cinema sector. The cultural and natural heritage represents a primary motivation for more than 50% of travels to touristic destinations: in this respect, the valorization of the heritage through hosting film crew or similar events, may foster the integration of territorial resources and improve the attractiveness of these areas with positive socio-economic impacts, starting from an increasing number of visitors and the creation of new sustainable services for tourists. CIAK aims to have a long-lasting impact that could develop specific transnational policies supporting creative industries. Therefore, the project intends to pave the way so that tourism policies’ managers could work together for the first time, bridging the gap of knowledge relating to the economic benefits of a stronger synergy and implementing new models to promote the cultural and natural heritage through cinema.
