The project explores the position of the contemporary subject within a society where experience is mediated by images and data. The initial video presents the flow of the city and its inhabitants, who function simultaneously as observers and observed, highlighting the “spectacle” as an integral part of everyday life.
In its interactive version, developed through Processing, the machine records the viewer’s presence and translates it into data. The viewer’s movement or stillness triggers the appearance of words expressing notions such as conformity, resistance, loneliness, or connection, revealing the tension between participation and alienation. The viewer becomes at once visible, recorded, and isolated.
Despite the apparent interactivity, the possibility of intervention remains limited, as the pre-recorded video cannot be altered. In this way, the work comments on the contemporary digital condition, where human action is captured but does not transform the system.
With a deliberately minimal aesthetic, the project avoids spectacle and instead seeks to expose its mechanisms. It does not propose solutions, but rather reveals a condition in which the subject both sees and is seen, leading to an increased awareness of their position.
