Date and Time: 10/05/2026 (18:00)
Location: Ionian Academy

AKOUSMATA is the annual series of events presented by the Laboratory of Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications (ΕΡΗΜΕΕ) in collaboration with the Laboratory of Performance Environments in the Arts (PEARL) at the Festival of Audiovisual Arts organized by the Department of AudioVisual Arts of the Ionian University. The program includes selected works by students of the Department of AudioVisual Arts from the "Audio of Art" course.

Antonios Tsialtas - Jericho (07:00)

This audio-art piece is inspired by the Biblical account of the destruction of the Walls of Jericho. It is an audio-dramatic experience, with dimensions of epic awe and archaic mystery, of a "post-cosmic" landscape.

Danai Paipeti - Thetis (04:51)

While creating this piece I was thinking about the sea, which I admire and love deeply. It was and will always be a source of inspiration for me in many ways, but especially in art. The title Thetis, which originates from Achilles' mother, came to me later once I had finished the piece, while thinking about greek mythology and the nereids.

Giorgos Mavidis - P.I.E.S (03:00)

A three-minute soundscape that traps the listener within a distorted urban environment. Layers shaped through phaser, pitch shifting, flanger, and extensive reverb create a sense of compression and disorientation. The piece functions as a closed sonic structure—an inescapable space with no exit.

Eleni Moschovoudi - Grains of Water(05:59)

The sound composition I created grew directly from my visual experience of Agnes Martin’s Summer. At first glance, the grid seems strictly geometric—squares, lines, dots—but as one approaches, the slight imperfections in the lines and the subtle tonal shifts reveal the human touch behind the seemingly precise structure.

The white and off-white dots guided me in bridging the visual and sonic realms: the granular synthesis reflects the painting’s microtexture, while the nuanced variations in the blue background form an acoustic backdrop. The “perfect–imperfect” lines inspired sounds reminiscent of scratching or tearing, and the grid itself organizes the sound in the same way it structures the painted space.

The composition seeks to convey the sense of undulation and balance that defines the work, creating a dialogue between visual and auditory perception. My intention was to honor Martin’s vision while developing a personal audiovisual narrative, where the viewer’s gaze and the sound interact, inviting the audience to perceive the painting’s delicate subtleties not just with the eyes, but with the ears as well.

Evanthia Doudopoulou - A pregnant pause (08:11)

An attempt to create a moment of quiet and restraint. Unhurried and subtle, the body of the work is made largely out of pure sine waves, while processed samples dance around each other playfully.

Zisis Kamanas - 2Deplete (03:55)

The title 2Deplete refers to the gradual “depletion” and deconstruction of the sound material within the work. In the central part, the dense ambient background is significantly reduced and replaced by simpler and fragmentary glitch elements. In this way, the work “empties” from the continuous sound mass and focuses on individual events and their temporal placement. A key element of the work is that it expresses this process of reduction, decomposition and depletion of the original material, before it reappears transformed in the final part.

Ilias Myriokefalitakis - Ritual (04:02)

My work “Ritual” is based on recordings made in the context of the course, and processed with time-stretching, paulstrech and pitch shifting techniques. The composition functions as an imaginary ritual, in which sound is organized in layers, with an emphasis on spatiality, depth and evolutionary form. The aim is to create an acoustic sound space, where the sources (samples) lose their legibility and are transformed into abstract sound masses and shapes.

Kyriakos Georgakakos - The Depth (05:10)

The work is an immersive sonic study on the transition from the familiar to the unknown. Originally conceived as a cinematic score, it evolved into a standalone composition that explores the boundaries between natural landscapes and subconscious interiority.  The narrative places the listener in an open environment where the natural sounds of crackling fire and flowing water gradually deconstruct. Through a process of sonic abstraction, organic textures give way to subterranean synthetic layers, leading into a dark, "liquid" cave where the sense of space dissolves.  Technically, the sound palette was shaped through the intersection of digital editing and algorithmic synthesis within the Pure Data environment. The use of custom patches enabled the creation of otherworldly drone textures and the extreme deceleration of sonic samples. In this way, time dilates, transforming the cavern's echoes and water droplets into a fluid, boundless acoustic lake. The result is a multi-layered experience that invites the listener to "dive" into the mystery of the depths.

Ruben Labes - Quasimodogeniti (07:38)

Quasimodogeniti is a piece about trauma, isolation and rebirth. Through electronic synthesis and acousmatic sample-manipulation it explores cavernous and confined spaces, passing many different figures and characters. The listeners see many shadows on the walls, without ever finding the light source. Pulse and voice play important roles in this composition, holding the audience's hand until its world ends.

George Gerasimopoulos - An Intergalactic Trip (5:27)

This project is an electroacoustic drone, aiming to create a soundspace with cosmic elements. The entangled sounds in this project work as chaotic elements and the layered sounds, cause feelings of anxiety, resulting in an unpredictable outcome
