The short documentary “Born from Soil” is a portrait of my father, whom I observe during his work in the greenhouse, where he has been working since 1984. The film focuses on his daily routine, capturing his relationship with work, nature, and time.
The camera maintains a steady distance, recording him without direct interaction with the lens. At the same time, shots of the space and details of the greenhouse are interwoven, reinforcing the sense of observation.
The narrative is based on his voice-over, as he responds to questions without the presence of the interviewer being heard. Through his words, both the positive and negative aspects of the profession emerge: the connection with nature, the process of cultivation, and the satisfaction of watching something grow, as well as the difficulties related to weather conditions and the economic reality.
The film moves within the field of observational documentary, focusing on the relationship between human and labor. The intention is not to explain, but to document an everyday practice through which a way of life is revealed.
