The short documentary In Between Hours follows the life of an elderly woman after the loss of her partner, with whom she had shared more than sixty years of life together. The starting point of the work was the need to explore how loneliness is experienced in old age, not through a detailed documentation of a person’s life, but through the observation of everyday routines, thoughts, and pauses.
The filming took place in the house where she now lives alone. The space functions as an active carrier of memory, filled with objects and images that testify to the past. The camera maintains a deliberate distance from the subject, placing the viewer in the position of an observer, as if quietly present within the space.
The narrative relies heavily on the sound environment. Beyond the voice-over, the sound design is composed of sounds from within the house, with the clock as the dominant element, functioning as a sonic metaphor for time passing slowly and repetitively. Pauses, silences, and small everyday movements acquire particular significance, shaping the rhythm of the work.
The film moves within the field of observational documentary and focuses on time, memory, and absence. The intention is not simply to document events, but to create an experiential condition, where image and sound allow the viewer to approach the reality of solitary everyday life.
