The project is a three-screen audiovisual installation, based on a documentary-style recording of the experience of Greek workers in Iceland. The material derives from personal footage captured during my stay and work in the country in the summer of 2025, where I documented moments from the daily lives of Greek friends and housemates who had relocated there for seasonal work during the summer months.
Through interviews as well as spontaneous everyday moments, the project seeks to capture the motivations, experiences, and personal stories of these individuals. Most of them moved to Iceland for financial reasons, as employment there offers the possibility of saving money within a shorter period of time compared to Greece. At the same time, the project examines how a small Greek community is formed within a geographically and culturally distant environment.
Particular emphasis is placed on the collective experience of temporary immigration. Their lives there are shaped by work and characterized by shared living conditions and interaction almost exclusively among Greeks. Within this context, the need to preserve elements of Greek identity emerges, along with the importance of collectively sharing experiences, stories, and emotions.
The aim is not a strictly objective or detached documentation of events, as the composition of the work is directly connected to my personal experience.
On a symbolic level, the three-screen arrangement functions as a means of representing the “chaos” of experiences, thoughts, and everyday moments within this specific circle of people with whom I shared my time there.
