Apostolos Loufopoulos – Stelios Giannoulakis

Loudspeaker Orchestra Showdown

Acousmatic diffusion concert

21.2.2026, 21:00

Ergastirio, Ioanninon 15, kolonos

The Laboratory hosts Apostolos Loufopoulos, Professor at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts and Stelios Giannoulakis for a concert presenting works of acousmatic music on a multi-speaker system. Micro-montage and detailed sonic processing, bold compositions shaped from diverse sonic objects in the service of form and aesthetic function. As sounds are transformed and woven into a continuous flow, their source and cause play in the imagination as part of the music itself.

The works of Apostolos Loufopoulos are electronic in nature, at times with a cinematic/musical character, including pieces that have received awards in international competitions in Austria, France, Belgium, Italy, Greece, etc. (Ars Electronica, Musica Nova, Bourges, Metamorphoses, etc.). His output includes purely electronic works as well as pieces featuring recorded flute, arising from his collaboration with composer and performer Myrto Korkokiou.

Alongside him, the multi-award-winning composer Stelios Giannoulakis will present his own works of high acousmatic value, influenced by rock, fusion, and symphonic music, filtered through the language of electronic music and the medium of the loudspeaker orchestra (acousmonium).

Free entrance.

Apostolos Loufopoulos is a distinguished Greek composer and Professor at the Ionian University, specializing in electroacoustic music and sound art. After completing his PhD at City University of London under Denis Smalley, he has received 19 international awards, including distinctions from Ars Electronica and Bourges. His work often focuses on the creation of “sonic films,” combining field recordings with digital synthesis. As a founding member of ESSIM, he has presented his work in significant record releases (such as INA-GRM), bridging acoustic ecology with contemporary digital media.

Stelios Giannoulakis is a composer, sound designer, and engineer based in Athens, active in the field of electroacoustic music and sound performance. He holds a PhD from Bangor University and a Master’s degree from Keele University. His multifaceted artistic profile includes acousmatic art, jazz, as well as music for film and dance, and he has received international awards (Bourges, CEC, Society for the Promotion of New Music). He is a founding member of ESSIM and teaches composition at KSYME / Athens Conservatoire.
