“Confinement” is an experimental short film inspired by early cinema of the early 20th century and elements of cinematic surrealism. Through a silent and atmospheric narrative, the film explores the idea of confinement within the cinematic image itself.
The story follows a young woman dressed in early 1900s clothing, situated outside an old mansion. At first, the scene reflects the simplicity and innocence of a silent film. However, as the film progresses, the protagonist begins to realize that she cannot escape the frame. The space gradually transforms from a natural environment into a restrictive structure, revealing her entrapment within the film itself.
As the narrative unfolds, reality becomes unstable through subtle surreal elements, while emotion is expressed mainly through physical movement and gaze. In the final sequence, the image begins to break down: the frame darkens and eventually “burns,” turning into white. Along with it, the protagonist disappears.
The film attempts to approach cinema not only as a storytelling medium, but also as a space of limitation, where the image can function both as a form of expression and as a mechanism of confinement.
