cortex: ANATOMICON, based on Brutalist architecture and integrating cyber and body horror aspects, depicts a special kind of entity- a liminal, seemingly abandoned building that has turned alive with the help of a mysterious artificial intelligence. As its name suggests, this entity possesses the ability to quite literally consume humans, thus updating and improving upon the AI's own intelligence one person at a time.
(cortex= nod to the cerebral cortex - the "brain" behind the entire operation /
ANATOMICON= referring to biological anatomy - the bodies of multiple victims meshed within the concrete /
"ANTHROPOPHAGITE" PROTOCOL= the command of the structure's consumption process. Derived from the greek words anthrοpos - ἄνθρωπος (human) + phagein - φαγεῖν (to eat))
In this illustration:
- The hanging remains of a human victim, now almost turned into an extension of the "machine". Body stuck to the concrete, heart carved out, face turned to steel and torso supported by a jumbled mess of cables, almost like veins of a living organism.
- A "natural" eye protruding from a carved-in socket in the concrete. The eye of the "machine". Of the building. The juxtaposing imagery of living flesh embedded into concrete breeds a sense of unease and dread to whoever makes it this far. It is already too late when they realize they have seen something they should never have.
- The mysterious glint of the windows in the far end of the hallway. Another one of the twisted mind games the victims have to endure. Because it soon becomes apparent that the outside world is but an illusion, existing only to bring forth hope in the hearts of the few who would have the privilege to see it, only to shatter it all in typical, brutal fashion.
There is no escape once inside.
