On Tuesday May 14th, 2024, 13:00-15:00 pm at room ΤΑΒΜ 2.39, Emeritus Professor Rob Kesseler, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, will be presenting “Butterflies in Art and in Corfu” as a guest-lecturer of the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts within the framework of the course "THE202-Communication Theory".

This lecture was originally prepared to give at the spring festival of the Corfu Butterfly Conservation Group https://corfubutterflyconservation.org/, a five year project set up to record and document the butterfly population in Corfu and is supported by the Ionian Environmental Foundation. The lecture will explore changing modes of representation and trace the representation of butterflies from Egyptian frescos through, Medieval manuscripts, 17th century Dutch Natural history painting, 19th century scientific diagrams to contemporary art, focussing on species found in Corfu.
