On Monday December 11, 2023, 13:30-15:30 pm, at room TP3, Mrs. Stella Klimatsaki will be presenting “Genetic Engineering in Science Fiction Film” as a guest-lecturer of the Department of Audio & Visual Arts within the framework of the course THE302 Philosophy & Media Aesthetics.More about the presentation:Science fiction film explores uncharted territories of human connection and technological advances. This presentation introduces science fiction as a genre and focuses on the topic of genetic engineering in film. Focusing on the films "Womb" (2010) and "Splice" (2009) the presentation explores how these film narratives challenge societal norms, by weaving a tapestry that blurs the boundaries between love, morality, and the manipulation of life itself.More about the guest-lecturer:Stella Klimatsaki is a doctoral candidate at the Dept. of Audio & Visual Arts, whose research focuses on the cinematic portrayal of gender, social roles, and sexual orientations within the context of incestuous relationships in global cinema. She is the author of “The Oedipus complex in the cinema” (2019) and “Flesh and Blood: Generic Monstrosities in Contemporary Greek Film” (with Yorgos Drosos).Visitor program coordination: Assoc. Prof. Dalila Honorato and Spec. Fac. Marily Argyrokastriti.
