CIAK Screenwriting Workshop Week III (Corfu) November 26 – December 1, 2019, Corfu, Greece
(Premises of the Department of Audiovisual Arts, Ionian University)

The Ionian University, Project Partner of CIAK Project, organized the third and last weekly part of the Screenwriting Workshop in Corfu, Greece on November 26 – December 1, 2019 at the Audiovisual Arts department premises. During the three weekly workshop sessions (hosted in Ioannina, Bari and Corfu respectively), 15 ascendant cinema screenwriters from all over the world attended intensive courses and gained personal supervision towards the development of their personal scenario. After the successful organization of the last session, high-quality scenarios were developed, which are expected to be submitted in their final form by January 2020.

The artistic director of this educational event was the worldwide famous, award-winning director Alexander Avranas. Under his supervision, highly experienced tutors (Spyros Verykios – Ionian University Assistant Professor and the awarded writers/directors Dimitrios Giatzouzakis and Stavros Pampalis) taught and supervised the workshop participants, helping and guiding them towards the successful development of state-of-the-art film scenarios. The CIAK project, funded for around 900.000 euro by Interreg V-A Greece-Italy Programme 2014-2020, aims to promote the territory of the involved regions (Regions of Ionian Islands, Western Greece and Epirus in Greece and Puglia Region in Italy), through initiatives linked to the cinema and audiovisual sector. The valorization of the natural and cultural heritage through short movies, documentaries, fiction, animations about the common story of Italy and Greece will improve the touristic attractiveness of the area by supporting a cross-border community composed of the creative industry operators.

Apulia Film Commission Foundation is the lead beneficiary of this project in cooperation with four greek partners, the Region of Epirus, the Region of Ionian Islands, the Region of Western Greece and the Ionian University – Research Committee. Associated partner is Puglia Region Department for Economy of Culture, Tourism and Valorization of Territory.

Ionian University is a CIAK project partner, represented by the Department of Audiovisual Arts – Faculty of Music and Audiovisual Arts, that is responsible for the organization of a number of planned educational activities, as well as of theme-specific festivals.
