The Ionian University’s Department of Audio and Visual Arts is pleased to announce the successful selection of candidates for the Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts program for the academic year 2025–2026. Classes are set to begin on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, marking the start of an innovative program that explores the dynamic intersections of art, science, and technology. In anticipation of this milestone, the university will host a welcoming session on Monday, 29 September 2025. This event will allow faculty members to meet and greet the second cohort of students, setting the tone for what promises to be a transformative educational experience.

The Master of Research in Hybrid Arts (MARes) is committed to providing students with flexible tuition options. The total tuition fee for the MARes 2025-2026 program is €2.000,00 payable in full or in four installments starting by September 26, 2025.

MARes 2025-2026 students who wish to be exempted from tuition fees and meet the criteria set by law should submit the necessary supporting documents mentioned in Ministerial Decision 108990/Ζ1/16-9-2022 (Government Gazette 4899/2022 vol. B) according to Ministerial Decision 46905/Ζ1/06-05-2025 (Government Gazette 2185/2025 vol. B')  (all in one PDF file)  attached until 26 September 2025 via email to mares@ionio.gr. An additional Application Form/Solemn Declaration issued through the www.gov.gr addressed TO: Secretariat of the Postgraduate Program "MARes in Hybrid Arts" and including the statement “Δεν έχω κάνει χρήση του δικαιώματος απαλλαγής από τα τέλη φοίτησης σε Π.Μ.Σ. με τη διάταξη του άρθρου 86 του ν. 4957/2022 και δεν λαμβάνω υποτροφία από άλλη πηγή. Δεν είμαι πολίτης τρίτων χωρών.” should also be attached.

The General Assembly of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, by the postgraduate program regulations, compiled the Table of Selected Candidates for the MARes “Master of Research in Hybrid Arts” for the academic year 2025-2026, based on the ranking order of applicants as determined by the criteria outlined in Article 11. For data protection purposes, only the application codes of the candidates are listed. All listed bellow candidates are requested to confirm their participation by September 26, 2025, by completing the acceptance declaration available at the attached file "Αcceptance Declaration" and indicating whether they hold another postgraduate degree. This, together with health insurance coverage number and proof of tuition fee status, should be sent to the email address: mares@ionio.gr.

The MARes in Hybrid Arts program 2024-2025 proudly congratulates all students who have successfully completed their first semester and are now progressing into their final semester, where they will carry out their individually-led research projects under the guidance of our dedicated supervisors. This year’s cohort is exploring bold and transformative themes at the intersection of art, science, and society.

We are looking for writers and researchers to contribute chapters to the upcoming Feral Labs Node Book #3: Fa Fa Futures — the final volume of the Rewilding Cultures project (Creative Europe, 2021–2026). Each writer will be paired with one Feral Labs institution and provided with curated documentation (reports, images, transcripts, contextual notes) to produce a reflective, research-informed chapter.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University’s School of Music and Audiovisual Arts announces the Master of Arts by Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts for the academic year 2025-2026. All students who have successfully completed the first semester and would like to choose a new supervisor for their thesis are invited to submit an application for the assignment of the proposed MARes faculty member’s name. Students who do not submit an application, will be automatically assigned their current academic advisor as thesis supervisor. The Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts program at the Ionian University has been privileged to host an extraordinary lineup of guest speakers throughout the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. These distinguished visitors have brought diverse perspectives and cutting-edge practices to our students, enriching our academic community with their unique insights at the intersection of art, technology, science, and sustainability. As the first semester draws to a close, we look back at the remarkable series of presentations that have stimulated thought, creativity, and innovation.

The MARes in Hybrid Arts program announces the opening of applications for the Half-Tuition Waiver for Merit-Based Achievement. This initiative provides financial support covering 50% of semester tuition fees (1,000€) for one (1) eligible student who demonstrates academic excellence.

Vaia Tsiokou, postgraduate student in the Master of Arts by Research in Hybrid Arts (MARes) at the Ionian University, presented during the Art & Technology III session of the 7th International Conference on Digital Culture & AudioVisual Challenges (DCAC2025) on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, a communication based on her research project titled “Living Architectures: Merging Natural Emergence with Human Design Intent through Computational Design Strategies”.

The Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University gladly announces the participation of the first postgraduate students of the new programme Master of Research (MARes) in Hybrid Arts in the DCAC 2025 Conference through a poster exhibition titled "In Between States: Research in Hybrid Arts."

In this session, Angeliki Malakasioti will explore the role of visual storytelling in scientific communication, focusing on the research poster as both a medium and a message. Drawing from her background in architecture, digital media, and speculative design, she will share practical strategies for creating effective, visually compelling posters that not only inform but engage and inspire. Emphasis will be placed on design choices, layout logic, visual hierarchy, and how aesthetic clarity can enhance the visibility and impact of scientific work.
