The PhD thesis aims to study and promote open-source technologies into music education and sound art.
Dimitri Chatzigiannakis is an award-winning composer from the Greek Island of Lesvos. He studied Musicology and Music Studies at National Kapodestrian University of Athens (NKUA), music composition and musical analysis with Joseph Papadatos, choral and orchestral conducting with Valery Oreshkin.
Dimitri went on to receive his Masters in Music Composition for Film and TV at Kingston University of London. His compositions include music for theatrical plays, ads and commercials for major companies as Korres, Puma, Green Cola, Hellmann’s etc.
In 2012, Dimitri’s scores for the short films Matador, China Doll, Miss Mia Meows won the Best Sound Score award in the Athens International Digital Film Festival film competition. In 2012 his score for the film Attica Park was nominated for the Best Sound Score, the film won the “Giannis Lamprou” award in Documentaries’ category of Aidff competition.
Since 2008 he is working as a music educator in Primary Schools and Second Chance Schools of Greece. He is also conducting three choir ensembles. Dimitri is playing the piano, the guitar, the saxophone, classical and ethnic percussions. Among his other interests he is repairing and constructing analogue and digital synthesizers.
