Research Programs

The overall objective of this project is to "create a system" which manages music traditions from territories involved, tracing an imaginary route along the history and tradition of Apulia and Ionian islands, in order to discover differences, contaminations and innovating measures with contemporary music. In order to achieve this goal, the project aims to create a common cross-border music identity based on traditions of marching bands of involved territories. Therefore the project seeks to create Music hubs able to support testing and contamination processes between different kind of music, merging marching bands and street bands with contemporary elements, in order to strengthen the link between tradition and modernity, and increase the value of the community for the business development of music sector. The project pursues to strengthen networks and services between the various kinds of musical arts, as well as to enhance the centenary old marching band tradition to be shared among Puglia and Ionian Islands. The network is going to be created in order to encourage the sharing of ideas and skills, efficient exchange of knowledge, new methodologies and innovative tools. The innovative character of the project consists of the process of merging old traditional marching band (with instruments, texts and playing) with new and contemporary artists or genres, in order to test and activate a "circuit" for the innovative development of the marching and street bands with new instruments or new repertoire.
