TIPS

Welcome to Vienna!

Here you can find practical info regarding your stay during the Taboo-Transgression-Transcendence (TTT) in Art & Science 2027 Conference in Vienna. All events will take place at the University for Applied Arts Vienna, at the following locations:

  • VZA = “Annex Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7” (Vordere Zollamtsstraße 7, 1010, Vienna)
  • GCP (former PSK) = Postsparkasse Building, “Annex Expositur Georg-Coch-Platz”, (Georg-Coch Platz 2, 1010, Vienna)

The opening and performances will take place in the VZA auditorium. The Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab (AIL) at GCP will be the main exhibition and conference location. Meals will be provided at the Café Exchange, which is also located at GCP. You can find a plan here: https://www.dieangewandte.at/en/university/locations. The two locations are within walking distance of each other and in central Vienna.

TRAVEL 

You can reach the University of Applied Arts Vienna in several ways. The closest and most central stop to VZA is Wien Mitte-Landstraße, a 5 min walk to VZA. The closest stops to GCP are Schwedenplatz and Stubentor. Both locations are within a 7-minute walk to each other.

→ By plane 

From Vienna Airport (VIE, https://viennaairport.com/en/passengers) you can take the City Airport Train (https://viennaairport.com/en/passengers/arrival__parking/city_airport_train_cat) to Wien Mitte.

→ By train or bus

If you want to go directly from the main train station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), take tram O to Wien Landstraße. You can also take the subway U1 to Schwedenplatz.

From Wien Westbahnhof, you can take the subway U3 directly to Wien Landstraße or Stubentor.

If you arrive at the Vienna International Bus Terminal (Wien Erdberg), you have a direct connection to Wien Landstraße or Stubentor with the subway U3.

GETTING AROUND

→ Public Transport (Subway, Tram, Bus)

One of the easiest ways to get around Vienna is by public transportation. You can use subways, trams, or buses. You can buy tickets directly at subway stations or online through Wiener Linien or ÖBB. Keep in mind that except in trams, you have to buy your ticket before entering the vehicle.

→ Renting Bikes

You can hire bikes at over 120 bike stations across Vienna. You can return them at any empty bikebox at any station, and they're available around the clock. Prices start at 37 cents / 30 minutes. More information is available here: https://www.wienerlinien.at/web/wl-en/wienmobil-rad-bikesharing.

→ Car Sharing

You can register for car sharing in Vienna: free2move.com/at  or gomore.at. The usual way to order a taxi in Vienna is to hail one on the street or call +43 1 31100 (App: Taxi 31300) or +43 1 40100 (App: Taxi 40100). You can also use uber.com and bolt.eu.

RESTAURANTS & DRINKS

Due to its central location, several options are within walking distance or can be easily reached by public transport. EMERGENCY AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The closest emergency rooms are at AKH Wien and Klinik Landstraße, which are both open 24/7.
