Athens School of Fine Arts’ Annex of Rethymno (Crete)
We are happy to organize the second TTTlabs BioFeral.BeachCamp (BFBC) during September 15-25, 2024 at the Athens School of Fine Arts’ Annex of Rethymno in the island of Crete, Greece. The Annex of Rethymnon is located at the hill of Evlygias, which is less than a 1 km away from the city center, in a site of 11,640 sq.m. This remarkable complex, designed during the early 1970’s by architect Pavlos Mylonas, a professor of ASFA, consists of 2 ground floor buildings of 589 sq.m. total area, arranged around an atrium of 110 m x 120 m. The surrounding area has been formed with paths, terraces, flat open spaces and lounges within a landscape of dense pine trees. An exhibition hall of 126 sq.m., with slide projector, and designated large open spaces are available for workshops. Accommodation is available in double/triple rooms with shared bathrooms and shared kitchen facilities. Wi-Fi is available. Air conditioning or heating are not available.
Access:
- Via ferry boat: regular schedules from Piraeus port to either Chania or Heraklion ports.
- Via airplane: The nearest airports to Rethymnon are Chania and Heraklion. Flight duration from the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to either of these airports is about 1 hour.
- Local bus line (KTEL) provides regular schedules between Rethymnon and Heraklion/Chania. Trip duration between Rethymnon and Heraklion is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes; between Rethymnon and Chania approximately 1 hour.
A few requests concerning co-habitation:
- Avoid wasting water: Please turn off the taps when you don’t really need to use water.
- Prefer biodegradable detergents and soaps: Because almost every detergent and soap that is being sold at the moment is based on oil extracts and phosphates, resulting in huge water pollution in seas, lakes and rivers.
- Use electricity responsibly: Unfortunately, Greece is among the countries that produce power based on lignite extraction. The amount of carbon produced is therefore very high and it is very dangerous for the environment and the human health as during the process of combustion, huge amounts of CO2 are released. By limiting the electricity consumption during your stay, you contribute actively in our effort to reduce carbon footprint. Please shut down all the lamps and devices before leaving the space, remember to turn off the lights when you don’t need it.
- Please clean after yourself: People have different concepts of hygiene and order which might be a reason for unnecessary conflict. Please leave things as you found them once you are finished. If something is misplaced or dirty please let us know and we thank you beforehand for actively helping us keep things clean and in place.
- Conflict and complaints: Please contact us at av-ttt@ionio.gr and we will provide support.
